1. Why it is important to study ethics? (5pts)

- It is really important to study ethics, it is because we can apply it in our daily
basis of our life.It can help us to view things in a bigger picture and finding or
discovering the real reason why it is existing. Ethics can serve as our guide on
what action we should do in a specific situation. On how we will respond and
have a good action that we will not ever regret.

Answer the following situation/case applying the ethical principle being asked. Discuss your
answer in 3-5 sentences. (5pts each)

Discuss your answer based on Virtue ethics.

1. At lunch time you realize that you forgot to do your math homework. The assignment
is 3 pages long with 45 computation problems to complete. Instead of eating, you
start to do the assignment. A friend offers you his completed assignment to copy
before class. What will you do?

- As a student it is my obligation to do my homework on my own because first of

all in the virtue of ethics whether it may result into a higher score, it is still a
product of cheating. It is my grade and I should be the one who needs to put an
effort with that specific work. I will also consider the consequence that I may get
in copying someone’s work for my own benefit. I will rather just pass the items
that I only accomplished than putting myself and grade into danger. It is my fault
so I will accept the outcome of my work.

Discuss your answer based on Utilitarian ethics.

2. You are a doctor at a top hospital. You have six gravely ill patients, five of whom are in
urgent need of organ transplants. You can't help them, though, because there are no
available organs that can be used to save their lives. The sixth patient, however, will die
without a particular medicine. If s/he dies, you will be able to save the other five patients
by using the organs of patient 6, who is an organ donor. What do you do?

- As a doctor and has a patient like in this situation, I will get patient 6 final consent as an
organ donor if she will agree to use her organs in order for the rest to live after he or she
die. I will assure patient 6 that the person who will receive his organs is the deserving
one. The fact that patient 6 is expected to have a shorter time of living because there is no
specific medicine in order for, he or she to live, just like in utilitarianism I’m sure that he
will be a happy organ donor because she became an instrument for other people to be
happy.

Discuss your answer based on Deontological ethics.

3. You are at your best friend's wedding just an hour before the ceremony is to start. Earlier
that day, you came across definitive proof that your best friend's spouse-to-be is having
an affair with the best man/maid of honor, and you catch them sneaking out of a room
together looking disheveled. If you tell your friend about the affair, their day will be
ruined, but you don't want them to marry a cheater. What do you do?

- As a best friend, I will not allow that the person I cherish will marry a cheater and
I will not let the ceremony to be a barrier for giving my friend a good life as a
married person. Just like in deontological ethics it talks about the duty, as a friend
it is my duty to protect my friend’s heart against the person who is trying to break
his or her. I will risk my image to my friend’s eye whether he or she will believe
what news I will tell him. My point is I’m doing my duty as a protective friend,
no one deserves to be cheated and to be hurt by someone who is not deserving for
the love that we give.
