Elder Jeffrey R.

Holland had said that “There are times when

the only way to get from A to C is by of B. There was this video
na pinakita sa amin in my institute class, it was a story called
Wrong Roads which is an experience from Elder Holland. He
shared that one day he wanted to introduce the place where he
lived in in Utah to his son. So they went and headed South
which is sa Old Arizona Strip and tumingin sila ng view, had
lunch there and all. But when it was getting dark and na-realize
nila na they had to go back home, they encountered a fork in
the road. Di nila alam which way to go kasi talagang di nila ma-
recognize yung roads na yun, kung sa left ba ang punta nila
pauwi or sa right? So Elder Holland asked his son, Matt, to pray
kung aling daan yung kukunin nila and after that Matt had said
that he strongly felt that they should go to the right and ganon
din ang naramdaman ni Elder Holland so they went to the right.
They went 4 or 5 hundred yards pero nakita nilang dead end
pala yung right. It was an absolute dead end, clearly it is the
wrong road. So they went back and took the other road and it
turned out yun pala yung tamang road. Going on while taking
the correct road Matt asked Elder Holland, “Dad, why did we
feel, after praying about it, that the right road was the proper
one to take, and it wasn’t?” Elder answered his son saying “I
think that the Lord, His wish for us there, and His answer to our
prayer was to get us on the right road as quickly as possible
with some reassurance, with some understanding, that we
were on the right road and we didn’t have to worry about it.
And in this case, the easiest way to do that was to let us go 4 or
5 hundred yards on the wrong road, and very quickly know,
without a doubt, that it was the wrong road, and therefore with
equal certainty with equal conviction that the other one was
the right road.”
Now from that I have come to know that there is nothing
wrong with taking paths we are not familiar with. Heavenly
Father is aware of us, knows our needs, and will help us
perfectly. If we unknowingly took the wrong path we would
have the perfect knowledge and perfect understanding why it is
the wrong path and so that we can take the correct path nang
walang doubts or walang regrets sa ginawa natin. The
scriptures teach us, “For your Father knoweth what things ye
have need of, before ye ask him,”3 and He “knoweth all things,
for all things are present before [His] eyes.” Mahal niya tayo, it
shows because he is always involved sa lahat ng details ng
buhay natin.
Prophet Mormon is an example for this. He did not live to see
the results of his work yet naintindihan nya that the Lord was
carefully leading him along. When he felt inspired to include
the small plates of Nephi with his record, Mormon wrote: “And
I do this for a wise purpose; for thus it whispereth me,
according to the workings of the Spirit of the Lord which is in
me. And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all
things which are to come; wherefore, he worketh in me to do
according to his will.” Na kahit di niya alam na in the future
mawawala ang 116 manuscript pages, the Lord still prepared a
way to overcome yung obstacle long before it happened.
Mapapansin natin, minsan yung prayers natin when we ask for
something, minsan we get answers immediately, minsan we get
answers late, minsan pa yung pinaka gusto nating mangyari or
yung answers na gusto natin di pala yun yung answer Niya sa
atin, and minsan di talaga siya nasasagot. But I know He has a
purpose why.
I have here another story shared by Elder Brook P. Hales. Elder
Hales’ youngest son was called to serve his mission sa France,
Paris Mission. So in preparation to serve there, they went to
buy him what he needed which includes an overcoat.
Unfortunately, out of stock yung size nung coat na gusto nung
anak ni Elder Hales, so the store clerk suggested that since the
coat will be available in a few weeks, they would deliver it to
the MTC in provo prior the son’s departure for France. So they
paid for the coat and thought nothing more of it. Elder Hales’
son entered the MTC and the overcoat was delivered days
bago yung scheduled departure niya. He didn’t try the coat but
hurriedly packed it in his luggage. Winter approached in Paris,
and Elder Hales’ was informed by his son na yung overcoat na
nakuha nya ay sobrang maliit sa kanya. So Elder Hales’ had to
deposit extra funds in his bank account para makabili siya ng
bagong coat nya in Paris. “With some irritation..,” Elder Hales’
said, “ I wrote to him and told him to give the first coat away,
inasmuch as he couldn’t use it.” Later they received an email
from their son telling them that “ it is very very cold there” and
that he gave yung small coat na natanggap nila from the store
back home dun sa missionary in the same apartment who said
that he had been praying for a way to get a better coat. The
missionary was a convert of several years and yung mga
sumusuporta lang sa kanya sa mission nya is yung mom nya and
yung missionary na nagbaptize sa kanya and so the coat given
to him by Elder Hales’ son was an answer to a prayer he had.
Elder Hales’ said “Heavenly Father knew that this missionary,
who was serving in France some 6,200 miles (10,000 km) away
from home, would urgently need a new overcoat for a cold
winter in Paris but that this missionary would not have the
means to buy one. Heavenly Father also knew that our son
would receive from the clothing store in Provo, Utah, an
overcoat that would be far too small. He knew that these two
missionaries would be serving together in Paris and that the
coat would be an answer to the humble and earnest prayer of a
missionary who had an immediate need.”
God knows the end from the beginning, He always does. And
sometimes the answer to many righteous prayers was no, in
favor of a far superior outcome. Tulad nung nangyari sa anak ni
Elder Hales, things didn’t go as they planned but in the end it
has better results kaysa sa in-expect nila nung una. I also want
to add what Elder Neal A. Maxwell had said, that ““Faith also
includes trust in God’s timing.” Kailangan lang natin
pagkatiwalaan siya sa mga path’s na di natin alam and when we
realize it is the wrong path we will immediately be able to get
back and start to the correct path.

I know that Heavenly Father wants us to learn for ourselves

kaya di niya binibigay ang lahat sa atin. Minsan kailangan nating
maghintay sa answers. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know
best kung anong Mabuti sa atin at kung anong kailangan natin,
kaya di Nila binibigay LAHAT sa panahong kailangan natin yung
mga bagay na pinag-pray natin. Alam ko na there is always a
correct path for us na kahit ngayon ay nasa maling path tayo we
will eventually go back and start to the right path.. I know that
God wants us to realize that ourselves but with his help and
guidance still. And I leave these things in the name of our
savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
