Instructions for closed book online exam:

Before start of the exam:

• We recommend that you keep your laptop fully charged before the exam as a good practice.
• This will be an artificial intelligence driven remote proctored exam.
• Please ensure you have a working computer system with working webcam and microphone,
and stable internet connection. Keep backup, if required. You are advised to check your
available computer systems, well before the exam time.
• You are neither permitted to use a second computer (desktop or laptop) nor a second monitor
connected to the computer on which you are taking the exam.
• For those on Windows machines, look at the bottom right of the taskbar to see what
programs are running in the background and QUIT from all of them. Typically, these would
include Skype, Zoom, Teams, Dropbox, OneDrive, Telegram, Google Drive, etc.
Remember, simply closing the windows for these programs is not enough because these
programs will continue to run in the background. You will have to ensure that you QUIT
from each of them. You DO NOT have to quit from any anti-virus program running in the
background. It is also a good idea to switch off all System notifications. Please follow
instructions on this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4028678/windows-10-
change-notification-settings and switch all notification settings to Off.

• For those on Mac machines, there are not too many programs running in the background.
Make sure you QUIT from all other programs and apps and also any others like Dropbox,
OneDrive, Google Drive, etc., which are usually displayed in the top bar. You DO NOT
have to quit from any anti-virus program. You can switch off system notifications by
following instructions on https://www.parallels.com/blogs/how-to-turn-off-notifications-
mac/ under method 2 (Pause Notifications from Notification Center).
• Please keep a photo ID handy to scan at start of exam. Any of the following photo IDs are
acceptable: ISB ID/Aadhar Card/PAN Card/Passport/Driver’s License.
• Mobile phones, tablets, earphones, headphones, earpods, etc. are not permitted during the
exam. You are bound by ISB’s Honour Code. You must not discuss any questions, doubts,
or solutions with anyone during the exam.
• Please make sure there is enough light on your face.
• There should be no one around you or talking to you while you are giving the exam. Even
you will not be allowed to talk at all.
• Please ensure that there are no loud noises or disturbance of any kind.
• Do not read the questions aloud.

Starting the exam:

• Please log in to LMS well before the exam start time to avoid any login issue and loss of
exam time. You will access the exam on Mettl through the link provided in LMS.

• Once you click on link to the exam available on LMS, you will be taken to the Mettl
platform.
• If you are using Mettl for an online exam for the first time, when you click on the
exam link, you may be asked to install an extension “Mettl Tests: Enable Screen
Sharing”. Please install the extension. You will also be asked to allow access to
your microphone and camera. Please allow the access as the test will not be allowed
to start unless you do the same.
• You will need to take a picture of yourself at the start of the exam on the Mettl platform.

• This is a closed book exam. You must not use any unauthorized materials to the exam
except the Mettl or a handheld calculator. You are NOT allowed to use a Cheat Sheet .
• Since this is a closed book and closed notes exam, you are not allowed to move to any other
tab or window or software during the exam. If you attempt to do so, you will receive a
warning. The Mettl system will log you out of the system if this behaviour is repeated and
then there is no opportunity to resume your exam. To this end, please make sure you close
all other windows, programs and apps on your computer before starting the exam. Failure
to do so will also result in a warning and eventually being logged out of the Mettl system.
During the exam:

• Remember, the Mettl platform is an AutoSave platform and there is no save option
available on the platform. All the attempted Questions/Answers will be AutoSaved at the
platform.
• Do not press the ‘F5’ key during the exam because this will immediately end the exam and
you will not be able to continue the exam.
• You cannot open any other program/window other than Mettl during the exam. In case you
try open the same, system will freeze your test and you will be logged out of the exam
window. There will be no opportunity for you to log back into and complete the exam.

• One bio-break of 5 minutes is permitted during an exam of up to 2 hours in duration.

• You may take a bio-break without asking for permission. Mettl is tracking each student’s
activity via Webcam. In case of any abnormal activity or delay in resuming the test, it will
be flagged and reported to the faculty. Please note that the exam timer will continue to run
during your bio-break.
• In case you get disconnected during the exam, please do not panic or stress out. Your exam
timer will stop and it will resume as soon as you log back into the exam session. Hence,
you will not lose any exam time. All your work until disconnection is auto-saved by the
Mettl system and you will be able to resume once you are logged back in. The Mettl system
takes 7 to 8 minutes to permit you back into the exam. Please wait until you are permitted
back into the exam. If you are unable to connect back even after 8 minutes have elapsed,
please reach out to the ASA Assist email ID below. For prolonged disconnections, the
system will not permit you to reconnect to the exam, in which case please reach out to the
ASA Assist email ID below.
• In exams with multiple sections, each section is timed. So if you click on the Next Section
button at the bottom right of the screen and you choose to move to the Next Section despite
the warning you receive, you will not be able to return to the Previous Section nor will any
residual time left for the Previous Section be added to the time for the Next Section.
• For entirely or predominantly numerical or computational questions, you are required to
show all your work and calculations on the worksheets, which must be uploaded on to LMS
once you are done with the exam. Additionally,
o For multiple-choice questions, you must mark the correct answer on the Mettl
platform and show all supporting workings and calculations on the worksheets.
o For questions with text boxes, you must type your final numerical answer as well
as any inferences based on that final numerical answer in the text box and showing
all supporting workings and calculations on the worksheets.
• For questions where you need to draw a table, graph or picture, draw them on the
worksheets and uploaded them on to LMS once you are done with the exam.
• For subjective, descriptive or qualitative questions with text boxes on Mettl, your entire
answer must be typed in the text box provided on Mettl. Answers written on worksheets
will not be graded. If there are a few minor calculations required for such questions to
substantiate your descriptive answer, that part alone can be done on the worksheets and
uploaded on to LMS once you are done with the exam.

• You are required to show your working (wherever required or appropriate) on

worksheets. Each sheet of paper should have your name and PGID and the same much be
uploaded on to LMS as a single PDF file.
• LMS upload: We will create a folder called “Exam Worksheets” on the course LMS
page. Upload your worksheets on to LMS after the exam as per guidelines below.
• You have 20 minutes from the end of exam time to upload your worksheets on LMS. We
will match the times of when you complete the exam on Mettl and when you upload the
working sheets on LMS. If there is a time gap of more than 20 minutes, it will be treated
as a violation of the Honour Code. If you do not show your work for a particular question
(if it is needed), you will not be given credit (even if your final answer is correct). If your
