1. Why do  2   2 / 4 oscillatory and  2   2 / 4 over damped? Explain briefly.

[2]

2. For the damped oscillator of m = 250 gm, k = 85 N/m, and b =70 gm/s.
Which damping conditions maintain the oscillator? If initial amplitude of
the system is 10cm, find out amplitude after 10oscillations. [3]

3. A transverse sinusoidal wave is moving through a medium in the positive

direction of an x axis with a speed of 80 m/s. At t = 0, the particle of
medium at x = 0 has a displacement of y= 4.0 cm from its equilibrium
position and it’s velocity is zero.. The maximum speed of the particle of the
medium is 16 m/s. (a) what is the frequency of the wave? (b) What is the
wavelength of the wave? [3]

4. A transverse wave of frequency 500 Hz has a speed of 350 m/s is

propagating +x axis. If amplitude of wave is 25cm, find out the maximum
speed of the particle at origin. [2]
