Three-Octave Scale Acceleration Practice

q = 80 - 120
Practicing Tips:

1. Using the Carl Flesch scale book, add the "Galamian turn" at the beginning and the end of each scale.

2. Use a pencil and eraser to mark the different slurs that correspond to the differnt note values onto the page of the scale book.

3. Arpeggios can be practiced using triplet rhythms (Nos. 3, 5 and 7).

4. Practice in both slurred and separate bowings.

5. Pay attention to even bow speed, equal bow distribution and smooth string crossings.

6. In addition to separate bowings in detaché, also practice different bow strokes such as martelé, spiccato and sautillé.

7. Practice Basic Bowing Patterns in different parts of the bow.

8. Apply Rhythm Practice in faster note values to develop and ensure accuracy and evenness.

Basic Bowing Patterns

To be practicied at different parts of the bow:

MB - Middle Bow
LH - Lower Half
UH - Upper Half
WB - Whole Bow

Practice detaché strokes with a focus on even, beautiful tone,

smooth bow changes and rounded string crossings.

1. Uniform bow speed and pressure, varying bow lengths

Basic Rhythms for Passage Practice
Practicing Tips:

1. Start by practicing the passage using the Martelé stroke, paying careful
attention to left and right hand coordination (Finger, Bow and Go).

2. Ensure that the passage is being practiced at the same part of the bow and with
the same amount of bow to be used in performance.

3. Listen and aim for good quality of sound and cleanliness of execution.

4. As the passage is repeatedly practiced, aim for increasing the ease and level of
comfort at which the passage is played.
