Advanced placement

vs
concurrent Enrollment
What is Advanced Placement?
● Advanced Placement courses are college-level courses
taught at the high school level.
● Students will earn high school credit after completing
the course, but they have the opportunity to earn college
credit as long as they complete and pass the AP final
exam that is offered in May.
● Students must earn a score of 3 or higher on the AP final
exam (required scores depends on the university student
is attending). Scores must be submitted to the
college/university.
What is Concurrent Enrollment?
● Concurrent Enrollment course are college courses that
students take in high school.
● With successful completion of each course, students will
receive both high school and college credit.
● Grade received in CE course will show on high school and
college transcripts.

How do i decide on which courses to take?
Both AP and CE courses offer rigorous curriculum and are
extremely beneficial to students who want to prepare for college
while in high school. Most colleges/universities will accept both
AP and CE credit. These courses often fulfill general education
requirements needed in the first few years of college. Both AP
and CE qualify for obtaining an Associates degree or a General
Education Certificate in high school.
Students should talk to their counselor and teachers to discuss
which courses would be most beneficial to their post-secondary
education. This will be the most useful to students as they make
their decisions. Students should also look at the
college/university’s credit transfer guide to ensure which
courses will be accepted.
