Lesson Eclipse
Content Standard Explain how solar and lunar eclipses occur using models
References Science 7 Quarter 4 Module 5
Materials Flashlight, Box, Cut out pictures, PowerPoint presentation, Activity Materials
Integration GAD Integration:
1.Gender equality in group discussions, gender equality in groupings, and gender equality
in praising.
2.Understanding cultural differences
DRRM Integration: Safety Precaution
Values Formation: Cooperation, Responsibility, Respect
Subject Integration: English, Music, Arts, Filipino, Araling Panlipunan
Approach Experiential and Collaborative Learning
Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1.describe solar and lunar eclipse;
2.differentiate solar from lunar eclipse; and
3.explain how solar and lunar eclipses occur using models
Procedure
Preliminaries (Elicit) 1.Greetings, Checking of attendance, cleanliness and orderliness
2.Prayer

Let the students play a game called “Picstate”. The learners will read the picture to reveal
the statement.

Follow up activity:
Let the students identify if the statement is Correct, otherwise if the statement is False
let them justify the reason.

1. 4.

2. 5.

3.

Establishing a purpose for the lesson The teacher will play a music and let the learners sing and identify the title of the song.
(Engage)
Follow up Questions:
1. What is eclipse?
2. How eclipses happen?
Presenting examples/instances of the new Let the learners have an activity called “Shadow making. In this activity, the students will
lesson (Explore) be given a white frame and flashlight to create a shadow. They should be able to identify
the image formed based on the mystery shape given to them.

Follow up questions:
1.What conclusion can you make on how shadows are formed?”
1. How does the distance of the object from the light source affects the size of its shadow?
2. Is there a shadow in space?
3. How is shadow formed in space?
Discussing new concepts and practicing new Let the students have collaborative and experiential learning by demonstrating how solar
skills #1(Explain) and lunar eclipse happen.

Developing mastery (leads to Formative The teacher will explain how solar and lunar eclipse happen and the different cultural
Assessment 3) (Elaborate) beliefs and practices when solar and lunar eclipse occur.

Questions to be asked:
1. Where is the location of the moon in relation to the sun and Earth during a solar
eclipse?
2. Where is the Earth in relation to the Sun and Moon during a lunar eclipse?
3. What is the difference between Partial Solar eclipse and Total Lunar Eclipse?

Follow up questions that leads to GAD and DRRM Integration.

1. How will you show respect to the cultural beliefs of different ethnic groups on
eclipses?
2. What are the precautionary measures you should exercise when solar eclipse
happen?
Finding practical applications of concepts and The students will be group into three and each learner may choose an activity he/she want
skills in daily living (Evaluate) to group with.

Group 1: The students will make a live presentation of the alignment of the sun, earth, and
moon in both solar and lunar eclipse.

Group 2: Using a Venn diagram, compare and contrast the solar and lunar eclipses.

Group 3: List down the dos and don’ts when solar eclipse happens.

The presentation of the students will be graded according to the criteria below:
Presentation: 15 points
Correctness: 15 points
Group Participation: 10 points
Time bound: 10 points
Total: 50 points

Making generalizations and abstractions about Collect and record information about beliefs and practices of community in relation to
the lesson (Extend) eclipses and explain its scientific bases.

Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners
who have caught up with the lesson
No. of learners who continue to require
