General Introduction about the Company
L&T Construction, India’s largest construction organization and ranked among the world’s top
30 contractors, has been over the past seven decades transforming cityscapes and landscapes
with structures of immense size and grandeur. The company’s capabilities span the entire gamut
of construction - civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation engineering - and its services
extend to all core sector industries and infrastructure projects. Several of the country’s prized
landmarks - edifices, structures, airports, industrial projects, flyovers, viaducts, water and power
infrastructure projects carry L&T’s signature of excellence in construction. Today, more and
more structures beyond India’s boundaries are standing tall, thanks to L&T Construction. L&T
Construction straddles seven related businesses:
• Buildings & Factories

Scope and Equipments
World has faced an unforeseen situation in the year of 2020 where most of the countries of the
world were dealing with lockdowns to prevent the spread of covid-19. So, our nation was also
under full lockdown from march’2020 to may’2020 which affects the routine testing of concrete
specimens. So, these overaged concrete specimens need to be tested to ensure design parameters
and stability of structures. To describe the process for determination of overaged concrete cube
specimen compressive strength in the DIAL PHASE-3A Project.

Procedure of testing
A. GENERAL
B. TEST PROCEDURE
i) Remove the specimen from the water and wipe out surface water from the beam
and remove the fins if any.
ii) Check the actual age and dimension of the specimen and note down the weight of
sample /specimen.
iii) The bearing surfaces of the supporting and loading rollers shall be wiped clean, and
any loose sand or other material removed from the surfaces of the specimen where
they are to make contact with the rollers.
iv) The specimen shall then be placed in the machine in such a manner that the load
shall be applied to the uppermost surface as cast in the mould, along two lines
spaced 20.0 or 13.3 cm apart.
v) The axis of the specimen shall be carefully aligned with the axis of the loading
device. No packing shall be used between the bearing surfaces of the specimen and
the rollers.
vi) The load shall be applied without shock and increasing continuously at a rate such
that the extreme fibre stress increases at approximately 7kg/sq.cm/min., that is, at a
rate of loading of 400kg/min. for the 15.0 cm specimens.
vii) The load shall be increased until the specimen fails, and the maximum load applied
to the specimen during the test shall be recorded. The appearance of the fractured
faces of concrete and any unusual features in the type of failure shall be noted.

Result interpretation
Specimens should be tested at each selected age. Average of three Specimens shall
be taken as sample of representative.
The equivalent Flexural Strength at 28 days shall be the estimated in-situ strength
multiplied by the age-strength relation obtained from Table no. 900-5 of MORT&H
specification 5th Rev and divided by 100.
Beam Strength Calculation (For Example)
Algorithm is for overaged Beam Flexural strength
