SANDRA : Hi Brenda, sorry for being late, I left my house on time but the traffic is terrible

at this time.
It was a challenge to get to your home. You know, It is rush hour.
I was ready with all my stuff to go out and arrive on time, but the Arica and Bolivia avenues
tracks are being fixed and they were my only way out. We only had one track to pass and
we should do it one by one.

BRENDA:  Oh I see, no problem Sandra, definitely the traffic in Lima is a big issue in the
city which should be regulated by the authorities. It is a nightmare to be stuck in traffic
during the rush hour. Also, another point I want to make is when they repair the streets the
traffic is maximized and it becomes a catastrophe.

SANDRA:  Exactly! I don´t know why the municipalities are doing that, they fix the streets
without thinking that they are principal ways and cars will have problems in rush hour.

BRENDA: I agree with you, It's insane that when the streets are being repaired, they only
enable a small lane for a lot of cars to pass, and those repairs last a long time, I think the
municipality should do something about it such as enable more car lanes and hire more
staff to speed up the repair process.

SANDRA:  I think you´re right, that could be a good solution. OH Brenda, do you
remember when you told me the other day that you almost had a car accident? What
happened exactly?

BRENDA: Oh yes, the other day, my car was almost crash by other that was at full speed
and had run the red light, I really got scared because it could have ended in a terrible
accident, not only for me, also for residents or pedestrians who often cross the street , the
worst thing and I’d like to focus on is that in that place there was no traffic police nearby,
and you know ,that happens in many parts of Lima,  there aren't enough transit police in
the streets even though there are so many irresponsible drivers and accidents, I think that
the authorities have to implement more rules to prevent car accidents and enforce traffic
rules, for instance,  implement more patrols that can chase and stop cars that don't respect
traffic signals and tow trucks that take cars that park in prohibited areas and that have
many penalties

SANDRA: I think so too.

SANDRA: Let me add that In Breña which is the Centre of Lima and where I live. Drivers
generate chaos if traffic police are not there. Bolognesi square always needs traffic police
from 5 o´clock, but they only appear on some occasions.

BRENDA: Exactly! That’s what I meant, oh sorry i think you were going to say something
else, Opps. Please finish what you were saying.

SANDRA:  I think traffic police need to regulate the main streets in rush hour, because it is
when there are more cars.

BRENDA: I think you’re right , the traffic in rush hour it’s a nightmare  and the only way to
solve that problem is that the streets have to be monitored more frequently and ….
SANDRA: Another point is people who do not follow traffic rules.

SANDRA: Sorry, What were you going to say?

BRENDA: I'm saying that it should also be implemented more innovative rules and
penalties.

SANDRA: Well, about traffic rules. People know the rules, but they don't want to follow
them. For example, Drivers cross streets in the red light, they know that they can only
cross only in the green light, but they don´t care. They could cause an accident.

SANDRA: Policemen need to enforce the law and put fines on drivers who don't respect
traffic rules. Maybe, these drivers should go to pass traffic exams for 2 year or more as
punishment ,because they need to learn the rules again.

BRENDA: You can say that again! I think that idea would be great for them to really learn
the rules. I really hope that one day there won't be so many traffic problems in Lima.

SANDRA: It sounds like a dream, but I wish that too.
