At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
- Define the rules of subject-verb agreement;
- Discuss the importance of subject-verb agreement; and
- Construct their own sentences using correct subject-verb agreement.

Basic Rules of subject-verb agreement.

Rule 1. If the subject is singular, add s, es,


or ies to the verb.
If the subject is plural, the verb
must be in base form.

E.g. Jason always eats breakfast before


leaving the house.

Rule 2. If there are two or more subjects


joined by and, the verb must be plural or
base form.

agree with the subject nearest to it.
