YOUR VOCABULARY BUILDER

1. Statement of the problem

2. Respondents
3. Data
4. Research
5. Topic

YOUR INITIAL TASK

Topic: Effects of social media to the academic performance of Grade 11 students of Tabaco
National High School S.Y. 2020-2021.

1. Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

2. Four hours a day
3. Low grades obtained and small span of attention and focus to the discussion

YOUR DISCOVERY TASK

ACTIVITY 1: WHICH IS WHICH?

Example No. 1:

1. Good, because we can determine the most preferred senior high school tracks and strands if
we are knowledgeable of the number of students that are going to enroll in senior high
school.
2. Bad, because the place was already mentioned which is Tabaco National High School.
3. Bad, because it is not related to the topic above.

Example No. 2:

1. Good, because we are talking about the correlation of the data of the parent and the
student.
2. Good, since it asked the results of the study: the academic performance of the Grade
11students of Tabaco National High School S.Y 2020-2021.
3. Good, because it analyzes and associates the parents' information and the
students'performance academically.

ACTIVITY 2: DEFINE IT!

 A research problem is a specific issue, difficulty, contradiction, or gap in knowledge that you
will aim to address in your research. You might look for practical problems aimed at
contributing to change, or theoretical problems aimed t expanding knowledge.

YOUR FINAL TASK

TEST 1: LET’S WRITE!

 The purpose of this study is to identify the barangay with the greatest number of COVID-
19cases in Masbate City. The researchers seek to answer the following questions:
1. What barangay has the greatest number of COVID-19 cases in Masbate City?
2. How many people are COVID-19 positive in that barangay?
3. What factors contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in that barangay?
4. How does the number of COVID-19 cases affect the living of the people in that
barangay?

YOUR REINFORCER

ACTIVITY 1: LET’S SEARCH

 A problem statement like "Students cannot read" is unclear because many aspects of
reading, such as discrete reading skills and strategies, can contribute to reading difficulties.
"Students cannot discover the major ideas in reading passages," on the other hand, is
considerably clearer and possibly easier to assess and solve, because major concept may be
defined in a variety of ways, and student performance can be determined in a variety of
ways. Defining or diagnosing a problem is essential for creating and implementing successful
treatments to address it, whether in the classroom, the doctor's office, or the mechanic's
shop. Researchers may find themselves in trouble if the problem isn't well defined because
there are numerous ways to define the main idea and determine student performance in
relation to this behavior.

YOUR REFLECTION/S

Research has been a big part of our social life. Social media platforms, entertainment,
machines, theories, etc. have been established due to a copious amount of research studies.
Similarly, research is a continuous process and constant learning in different fields and areas.
Without this powerful rapier, none of these things that make our life comfortable and easier will be
made. Moreover, it is important to study research because it gives us new knowledge and ideas that
help us build creative and modish instruments to sustain our necessities and needs in our daily
existence. Researchers choose what to develop based on the problem in our society and community.

Writing a clear and precise statement of the problem is imperative because this will
serveas our guide and path in doing research. This will give focus to the researchers to avoid
broadstudy and to derive a direct conclusion of the study. Once published, the study can stop,

however, recommendations of the study are requisite to give way to other researchers and
formulate new ideas.

Thus, research is important and statement of the problem is significant to a chosen

topic. Both of them will contribute to a person's well-being despite being a "problem". Nonetheless,
all problems have solutions and that solution is research.
