B. Performance Standard- Students can be able to identify mixtures from substance and
demonstrate the formation of mixtures and substance.

C. Learning objectives: At the end of 50 minutes discussion, the Grade 5-Rizal must be able to
do the following with 90% mastery:
a. Identify the kinds of mixture and solutions
b. Demonstrate methods of mixtures and solutions
c. Give importance to the application of solutions and mixture in the real world.

II. Content:
Topic: Mixtures and Solutions
Reference: Saniel, Montana C. and Sustento, Sylvia A. Abiva Publishing House Inc.
Science through Inquiry 5. Page 54-60
Materials:  Pictures, kinds of mixtures and solutions, power point, and videos.
Values Integration: Cooperation and Appreciation

III. Procedure:
a. Preliminary Activity
i. Greetings
 The teacher will greet her students and will ask if how was their day.
ii. Prayer
 The teacher will select one student to lead the prayer. (Our Father)
iii. Classroom Management
 The teacher will ask the students to pick up pieces of paper on the
floor and arrange their chairs.
iv. Checking of  Attendance
 The teacher will ask the row leaders if there are absentees in their rows
for today.
v. Drill
 Teacher will conduct Entry Tickets activity. These short prompts will
provide instructors with a quick student diagnostic. Entry tickets focus
students attention and on the day’s topic or ask students to recall
background knowledge relevant to the day’s lesson.
vi. Review
 The teacher will ask her students to recall what they have learned
yesterday.

b. Motivation
 The teacher will ask if they ever made a chocolate milk drink, and
what they have noticed if you let your chocolate milk sit for a while?
 The teacher will ask if they ever made a drink with water and a powder
like lemonade mix. What does the powder look like after you stir it in
the water?
*These are thought-provoking questions that will inspire your students
to think.

c. Lesson Proper
 The teacher will present a video presentation about mixtures and
solutions. *this activity will help visual learners
 The teacher will set p three glasses of water
1. Add pebbles of sand to the first glass. Stir the water. Ask students
whether this is a mixture or a solution. (Answer: It is a mixture
because the sand and the water stay separate. The sand does not
disappear in the water.)
2. Add a teaspoon of salt to the second glass. Stir the water until the
salt disappears. Ask students if this is a mixture or a solution.
(Answer: It is a solution because the salt dissolves, or disappears,
in the liquid.)
3. Ask students if two liquids will form a mixture or a solution. Then
add some vegetable oil to the third glass and stir. Ask students if
the glass contains a mixture or a solution. (Answer: The oil and
water form a mixture because they do not mix. The oil does not
disappear or dissolve.)
 Further discussion will happen. *this will help Aural and Verbal
learners. The teacher will encourage learners who are having
difficulties to do the task to participate in the activity.
d. Generalization
 The teacher will ask the students:
“How do we use mixtures and solutions in our daily lives?”
“Give the importance of mixtures and solutions in the real world”
*this will develop logical learners
-Brainstorming: As a class, have students engage in open discussion.
Remind the students that in brainstorming, no idea or suggestion is
“silly”. All ideas should be respectfully heard.
e. Application
 The teacher will group the students of mixed abilities or with
individual differences to work together.
 Activity: Get the materials indicated in the following table. Find out
which of the liquids mentioned will dissolve the solid materials.

Solids Liquids

Water Oil Acetone Alcohol Kerosene

1. Coffee
2. Butter
3. Paint
4. Nail Polish
5. Powdered Milk

Did all the materials you used dissolve in all the liquids? Which
materials dissolve in liquids? Which liquids can dissolve which
materials? *the group will discuss the data’s and make sure everyone
understands so that no one will leave behind. The teacher will also
check their work time to time.

IV. Evaluation:
 The teacher will give a short quiz. The teacher prepared the following
materials and they will still work with their groups.
