IPAM Express has been Replaced!

Go here for a trial version of Infoblox DHCP, DNS and IP Address Management.

Increase Efficiency with Integrated DDI

Network landscapes are evolving and demanding advanced solutions for managing DNS,
DHCP and IP Address Management, collectively known as DDI. Infoblox DDI is the industry-
leading, integrated and centrally managed approach to delivering enterprise-grade, highly
available DNS, DHCP and IPAM services throughout your network.

IPAM Today
IPAM goes far beyond IP address tracking and allocation. With expanding networks, keeping
track of multiple types of data pertaining to the devices is increasingly complex. While IT
vendors
are create more tools to help track network devices, the information is just not
centralized, reducing confidence in the data’s accuracy and timeliness.

Infoblox takes IP addresses and their management to a new level, providing layers of
information that help IT departments have centralized visibility and management of every
network resource and advancing the concept of IP resource management.

Using IPAM Freeware
Now that you have installed IPAM Freeware and retrieved the IP address, you can then log in and do the following:
• Create networks that you can manage.
• Run a discovery to obtain and manage information about your networks. During a discovery, the system detects
all active hosts on the specified networks.
• View the discovered data.
Note that with Infoblox IPAM Freeware you can manage a maximum of 500 active IP addresses. Attempting to run a
discovery on a large subnet may exceed this limit and take a significant amount of time to complete. If you need a
solution to manage a large number of IP addresses, please contact Infoblox.

Logging In
1. Open a web browser, enter http://<ip_address>. Type the IP address that was displayed on the VMware console.
The IPAM Freeware login screen displays, as shown in the following figure.

viewing and managing data.

Figure 1.7 Dashboard

Creating a Network
1. In the My Commands widget of the Dashboard, click Add IPv4 Network.
2. In the Add Network wizard, complete the following:
— Address: Enter the IP address of the network. You can enter the IP address with a CIDR block. For example,
enter 10.0.0.0/24, and the netmask slider adjusts the netmask to /24. You can also enter partial IP address
with a CIDR block. For example, when you enter 15/24, the system displays 15.0.0.0/24 and the netmask
slider adjusts the netmask to /24.
— Netmask: You can use the netmask slider to select the appropriate number of subnet mask bits for the
network.
— Comment: You can enter additional information about the network, such as the name of the organization it
serves.
3. Click Next until you reach step 4 of the wizard.
Steps 2 and 3, which are supported on the NIOS solution only, allow you to assign a DHCP server to the network
and set certain properties.
4. In step 4, you can specify the attributes of the network. Select one of the predefined attributes, such as Site, and
enter a value.
5. Click Save & Close. If you want to create another network, click Save & New to open a new wizard.

7
Running a Discovery
1. Go back to the Dashboard and in the Discovery Status widget, click Discovery Manager.
2. In the DIscovery Manager wizard, click the Add icon (+).
3. From the list of networks that you created, select the networks on which you want to run a discovery.
4. Click Start, and then Close to close the wizard.
The Discovery Status widget displays a progress bar and tracks the number of networks the appliance has discovered.
You can click the Refresh icon to update the status displayed by the progress bar.
