__________Ethics and Philosophical Inquiry_________

Topic/Lesson

Using the principles of logical reasoning and critical thinking, explain your
stand on the following ethical issues:

1. Divorce in the Philippines

2. Resumption of Death Penalty
3. Same Sex Marriage
4. Legalization of Abortion
5. Extrajudicial Killing
METACOGNITIVE REPORT #1

1. DIVORCE IN THE PHILIPPINES

As a student if ever get married, I would agree for the legalization of

divorce. The Philippines, were roughly 80 percent of the population in Roman
Catholic, is one I of only two countries in the world where divorce remains
illegal (with exemption for the roughly 5 percent of the population of the
Muslim’s).
In the Philippines divorce is being frowned upon because of the heavy
influence by the church but as we understand the Annulment are more unfair
on both sides of the man and The court would probably be more sympathetic
to the mother in this scenario, given the father’s misrepresentation, as long as
the focus is on the best interests of the child(ren), while the father would be
the 3rd choice to have the custody of child if things goes south. A woman who
are annulled will still carry the last name of the ex-husband till the day of the
her death.
The annulment would simply dissolve the marriage as if it had never
happened in the first place. Also, A woman being a battered wife wants
annulment but cannot do it as it is more pricey and the annulment are a very
pricey and a long process for which are being called as anti-poor because the
price of the process of the annulment would start roughly around 200,000
pesos. Depending on the marital property laws of their state, their
combined assets and liabilities will be divided either equally or equitably; one
spouse may pay alimony to the other; and child custody, support, and
visitation will be determined. If the couple can’t agree on the terms of the
divorce, it may be argued in court and decided by a judge. The union was
valid when they obtained their marriage license, but now they wish to
terminate the marriage. Annulment never satisfies a woman or a man to cut
ties with the person he or she fell out of love.

2. RESUMPTION OF DEATH PENALTY

I would disagree for the resumption of death penalty for the reason that
there are many blind side in cases of murder or homicide. I personally
disagree for the reason that I still believe as a Roman Catholic that God and
only God has the right and power to take the life that he lends to us. The
death penalty was abolished in year 2006 for the reason it is prone
inaccuracy, that it doesn’t deter crime, and that it can cost lives.
I still prefer the Reclusión Perpetua or permanent imprisonment without
parole as serves more humanistic behind the hideous crime that a person has
committed. Death penalty is prone to inaccuracy especially to the people who
are powerless and many are innocent that are being wrongly accused of the
crime that they didn’t committed or has done.
Death penalty is a scary and terrifying law, and the most inhumane law
if ever it will be imposed back again because of drug-related heinous crimes
in the Philippines during the 2016 because of the raise of death count of War
on drug of the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, since it was abolished in year

2
2006 during the presidency of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo,
under pressure from the Catholic Church.
In the Philippines alone the supreme court said in 2004 that 71.77% of
death penalty verdicts handed by lower courts were wrong. In this reason
alone the death penalty should not be imposed as for the reason that death is
not always the answer and will never be the answer. Dr.Narag says who were
also almost to be executed until the death penalty law was abolished in 2006.
“It is the poor and and vulnerable who bear the harsh punishment of criminal
justice systems in grossly unjust ways.” she said during the interview with the
BBC News.

3. SAME SEX MARRIAGE

Marital relationships have been portrayed in many ways as legal

contracts that are legally binding, as well as moral commitments, changes in
familial connections, and even rites of passage. It's about the religious ritual
that's being disputed. Everyone acknowledges that when two homosexuals
have the same relationship, why shouldn't they be united? These folks are just
like their heterosexual counterparts in that they have the same human
features and civic obligations. Many people believe that having a same-sex
relationship jeopardizes a marriage's integrity or is ethically wrong and the
church would heavily denied this kind of marriage, yet divorce does the same.
Because many think that the church has the last say on all moral concerns, it
is the most common argument against homosexual relationships.
Although they have been there for thousands of years, they are
essentially non-existent in today's concerns. When considering the concept of
same-sex relationships, individuals should keep in mind that because unions
between two people do not have a personal impact on outsiders, seeing two
men or women connected by more than platonic affection should signify little
to them. For many centuries, the Catholic Church has been active. In ancient
Europe, the church was the dominant party of the kingdoms in the early days.
I doubt that people would perceive a difference from how things are
now; the concept of same-sex partnerships affects primarily those who
engage in such activity. Without the Catholic Church's influence, I genuinely
think homosexuality would not be nearly as prevalent now. The church
expresses its views on all matters and offers no alternatives; it is either their
way or no way at all. Same-sex relationships should be treated with the same
respect as any other couple's rights across the world, rather than being
overlooked and gossip how bad it is in the eyes of the people who sees it that
can’t still accept this kind of relationship.

4. LEGALIZATION OF ABORTION

Abortion is the most heinous act a woman can commit against human
dignity. It is a horrific crime against life. No woman has the authority to murder
a new live creature. Abortion is illegal in many countries, and numerous

3
institutions fight to prevent it. Abortion is morally repugnant and should not be
authorized.
One of the arguments made in favor of abortion is that incest or rape-
related pregnancies cause issues in their life. Yes, assault victims experience
emotional pain, but the innocent life created as a result of the crime should
not be blamed for any problems. A victim might seek psychological counseling
to assist them in recovering from their trauma if they become a victim. It's all
in the head, and many women who have accepted their pregnancies and
gone into labor would tell you that the infants have brought them joy.
Families will also be at risk if one partner becomes pregnant or
impregnates another, but there will be no evidence of infidelity in a
relationship because abortion is permitted. All we have to do now is respect
the cornerstone of life, which begins at conception. Things can always be
handled, regardless of the scenario, and we humans must respect the coming
generations, which we haven't seen yet, yet we constantly talk about.
A person or individual should make themselves responsible the act that
they know that have a chance that would bring off spring and the woman
should always believe that even how horrible the past or situation that
happened to her during the bearing of her child they must remember that the
fault of the father cannot be inherited by the son. A unborn child must have
given the chance to live and would see the world in beautiful perspective with
the guide of it’s loved ones.

5. EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLING

Countrymen have been unquestionably fed up with all of the atrocities

in the country, which is why they have yearned for change. Illegal drug use is
one of these crimes, and it has undoubtedly devastated many lives. But, as a
student and a citizen of this nation, I strongly oppose summary executions,
often known as extrajudicial killings. To execute people who have sinned due
to illicit substances is not the transformation that Filipinos require. These
unjust perpetrators will not put things right and provide confidence that the
Philippines would be crime-free just because addicts have been removed off
the scene. Extrajudicial killings are no different than true crimes in that both
deprive victims of their right to life.
Homicide and murder are two ways of murdering someone else. The
distinction is that murder is regarded when the killer kills the victim. As a
result, killing becomes less of a guilty error because it was either an accident
or self-defense in the first place.
Human Rights were founded not just for equality but also for individuals
to enjoy and self-actualize because a society devoid of these is rife with
disparities. Among these rights is the right to be free, live, and be tried.
However, some Filipinos choose to take advantage of the circumstance and
kill innocent individuals who may or may not be under the effect of narcotics
through extrajudicial killing. Many rights are being violated and halted in the
Philippines due to the frequent killings. It is unfortunate to note that the
government itself is unconcerned about whether human rights are being
enforced. The administration's sole purpose is to put an end to drug use.

4
Extrajudicial executions must be avoided at all costs. Nonetheless, the
government takes no essential steps because they are doing this to reduce
the use of illegal narcotics such as shabu, marijuana, and so on.
