What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?

The student learning goals I would like my students to reach while working with the digital assignment tool
include being able to answer questions after reading a short story, recalling who, what, when, and where
the story takes place, as well as becoming comfortable with the assignment tool.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by

teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation: The standards of my lesson are addressed on the first slide of my
Kahoot. With I will go over the standards then quickly go over how to use Kahoot. The students will
have a tablet or computer that they will be using to sign into our Kahoot while I go over standards.
Once everyone is logged in and ready, I will move onto the next slide and have a student read aloud
the short story to the class. This will allow students to not only read it themselves but also hear it
aloud. When going through the Kahoot I will choose different students to read each question but
they will all individually answer on their computer or tablet. At the end of the Kahoot it shows the
top 3 in the class and they will get a small prize, then I will look over the other results and determine
what areas each student needs to focus on.
Managing student learning:
There will be a shift from passive to active learners because the students will interact as a class when
reading the story/ questions, but they will individually answer based on their own thoughts. There is
a time limit on each slide or question when using Kahoot so the students will be able to talk and
celebrate between the questions when the results come up then be directed back on task when the
next question appears.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
This tool will be a great way for students to engage in answering questions without having to stand
up in front of the class and say it. Many students don’t participate in verbal lessons because they
may be nervous to answer incorrectly. This tool allows students to answer and it is anonymous
(other than the top 3). This will be a great tool to help those who don’t like to speak up still show
their knowledge.

Reflective Practice:
After going over this lesson I will ask the students what they enjoyed and didn’t enjoy. I will then go
back over the importance of paying attention to what you are reading and how important details
are. The students will begin to understand that each question was a small detail of the story and
take this experience and learn from it. The goal is for the students to reflect on this when we
complete the next Kahoot on a short story.
