Activity 2 – CONTROL SYSTEMS

(1 session)
UNDERSTANDING GOAL
Show understanding that every computer system is made up of sub-systems, which in turn are made up of
further sub-systems.
1) WATCH THE FOLLOWING TUTORIAL AND ANSWER THE THROUGHLINE OF THE DAY. (PRESS CNTRL OR
CMD BUTTON AND LEFT CLICK ON THE MOUSE TO OPEN THE LINK)

2) Run the simulation that can be found at the link below and click on the
“Scramble” button to mixup the colors of the Rubiks Cube. When you do
you should see your virtual cube look similar to this example:

3) Click on the “Solve” button


4) Watch the solution video in the new page that opens and notice the steps
used to solve the Rubiks Cube.

5) Answer the next question:

6) Analyze, and create in the online platform draw.io with your teacher a
flowchart regarding the algorithm used to solve the Rubiks Cube by using
the correct symbols from the following image.
SYMBOL NAME FUNCTION
An oval represents a start or an end point.
START END Start/End

Arrows A line is a connector that shows relationships


between the representative shapes.
A parallelogram represents input and output.
INPUT OUTPUT Input/Output

A rectangle represents a process.


PROCESS Process

A diamond indicates a decision. (IF YES OR NO)

1)In Draw.io please follow these instructions to get started


1. If you are asked to select a place to save, choose “Device”

the new diagram.
2. Enter your name and grade group for your filename as
shown below:

Click on “Blank Diagram”


3. Choose to save to the “Downloads” folder so that you can
easily find the file you were working on.

4. Your screen should now look like this. This is the workspace
screen which allows you to create your flowchart.
5. In the screen below you will see the shapes. These shapes
are used to create a flowchart and as you saw in the
beginning of this activity, they all have a meaning and
purpose.
6. When you click and hold on a shape you can drag it into
your workspace as you see below. If you want to add text in
the shape, simply double click on the shape and then begin
typing.

7. You can click on the dots at the edges of the shape to create
the next shape and draw an arrow connecting the current
shape to the new shape.
8. Once you have completed your flowchart, 1. go to “File”, 2.
Click on “Export as… PNG. ONLY SAVE IN THIS FORMAT IF
YOU ARE TOTALLY DONE WITH THE FLOWCHART BECAUSE IT
CANNOT BE EDITED IN PNG FORMAT ONLY IN Draw.io
format.

9. Upload the file into the assignment using the “Attach”


button in the assignment.
