Activity Type Introduction


Writing, listening and This insightful worksheet activity helps lower-level students to
speaking activity practice past simple 'Wh' questions and time expressions in the
past.

Language Focus Procedure


Past simple 'Wh'
Demonstrate the activity by writing an example question on the
questions
board using the structure from the worksheet, e.g. 'When did
Time expressions in the you last watch a film?' Add 'When' 'Who' and 'More information'
past columns beside it.

'When did you last...?' Also, write the time expressions from the bottom of the worksheet
questions on the board.

Ask a student the question and have them answer using a time

To practice past simple
Complete the 'When' column with their answer. Ask for their name
'Wh' questions and time
and then ask some past simple 'Wh' follow-up questions, e.g.
expressions in the past.
'What did you watch?' 'Who did you go with?' Etc. Complete the
other columns with the information provided.
Preparation
Then repeat the process with other students.
Make one copy of the

Give each student a copy of the worksheet and go through the

The students should also ask past simple 'Wh' follow-up questions
and write the answers in the last column.

It is important to tell the students that they can only have the
same name once. This is to encourage them to speak to as many
different partners as possible.

When everyone has finished, ask the students to give feedback


to the rest of the class on what they found out. If there are any
interesting findings, encourage the students to discuss them in
more detail.
