Do the following:

1. In the context of addressing gifted learners, do you agree with the note of the observer? Write your
reflections in this form.
2. Based on your reflection, design a Learning Action Cell (LAC) plan to assist your colleagues in
designing, adapting, and implementing teaching strategies for gifted learners. Attach your LAC plan
here.

YOUR REFLECTIONS

Gifted learners have potential that is significantly higher than normal in one or more of the following domains:
intellectual, creative, social, or physical. In order to reach their full potential, they require services and activities that
is not normally given by the school. Gifted learners excel in one or more academic fields. Exceptional ability in one
or more practical topics distinguishes gifted students. As they go through their scholastic careers, gifted students
frequently pursue further education and advanced degrees. They are, for the most part, structured thinkers. When
prompted, gifted youngsters may be able to come up with a story or a sketch, but creativity is not one of their
strengths. They are often well-rounded, and they may continue to perform music or create creative projects, despite
a lack of interest in composition or abstract thinking.

I object to the remark made by the observer. What she espouses is not the way to encourage gifted learners in the
classroom. These gifted students have unique needs, requirements and behavioral patterns, and as teachers we
must understand this uniqueness so we can provide them support. In a math assignment, give gifted students more
complicated numbers or a more difficult material to read. Add a second component to assignments, such as having
them apply what they've learned in a real-world setting or writing an explanation of what they've learned. Math
algorithms, science concepts, and grammatical norms are all readily grasped by gifted students. You can
encourage them to apply the talent they're learning in the real world to go beyond it. They could investigate how
area and perimeter influence an architect's design or how scientists utilize animal taxonomy to better comprehend
animal life and function.
