PHYSICAL EDUCATION 5 – Learning Activity Sheet – FIRST QUARTER
Physical fitness is a state of health and well-being of a person. On the other hand, it
refers to the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations and any daily activities.
Physical fitness is mostly achieved through proper nutrition, moderate-vigorous physical
exercise, and sufficient rest.

study.com

Physical fitness refers to the ability of your body systems to work together

efficiently to allow you to be healthy and perform activities of daily living. Being efficient
means doing daily activities with the least effort possible.
A fit person is able to perform schoolwork, meet home responsibilities, and still have
enough energy to enjoy sport and other leisure activities. A fit person can respond
effectively to normal life situations, such as raking leaves at home, stocking shelves at a
part-time job, and marching in the band at school. A fit person can also respond to
emergency situations - for example, by running to get help or aiding a friend in distress.

COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL COMPONENTS

Physical fitness has two main components namely health-related components and
skill-related components.

Health-Related Fitness Components are linked to one’s overall health and body function.

1. Body composition
2. Cardiovascular fitness or endurance
3. Flexibility
4. Muscular strength
5. Muscular Endurance

Skill-Related Fitness Components are linked to physical or motor skills that are required
in performing daily tasks or sports activities.

1. Agility
2. Balance
3. Coordination
4. Power
5. Reaction Time
6. Speed

3
PHYSICAL EDUCATION 5 – Learning Activity Sheet – FIRST QUARTER
The Filipino Pyramid Activity Guide categorizes different activities into varied levels.
It suggests on how often one should participate in certain activities. This guide intends to
keep the Filipino healthy and active. It is divided into four levels.

The BOTTOM part of the pyramid consists of day to day activities. This level lists
habitual tasks that are done every day. These daily routines and habits contribute to our
overall health.

The SECOND level of the pyramid activity guide consists of aerobic exercise and
recreational activities. This level lists the activities that should be done regularly, at least
three times a week or such as five times a week.

The THIRD level of the pyramid activity guide consists of leisure activities and
exercises for strength and flexibility. This level lists activities and exercises that are less
strenuous compared to the second level of the pyramid.

The TOP of the pyramid activity guide lists activities that should be done minimally.
These activities include tasks that involve a lot of sitting down and not much aerobic
workout. Such tasks lead to sedentary lifestyle. These activities should be done minimum.

There are many wonderful ways to be physically active every day. By doing a variety of
moderate-intensity activities, such as gardening, jogging, riding your bicycle, or walking,
you will find it fun and easy to incorporate physical activity into your daily life. Adults
should do at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day, while children should do at
least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Use the following Physical Activity Pyramid
as a guide for creating your own weekly program.

REFLECTION: What is the aim of Philippine physical activity pyramid? Do you agree about the

Good day. Hello my dear pupils. Are you feel good in our previous
lesson about Philippine Physical Activity Pyramid? FANTASTIC! Now
let us discover new learning through this module.

Fitness components such as coordination muscular strength, and

power are vital in target and striking fielding games. The eyes,
hands, or feet work together smoothly (good coordination) in order
to perform the action necessary to hit the said target.

What exercises do you do in a day?

FITNESS COMPONENTS: MUSCULAR STRENGTH, COORDINATION, and POWER

Target games and striking games usually require players to throw an object into a
target. Along with aiming for a target, such as games also require a player to w=swing and
use an implement to hit the thrown object. These games require the players to have
muscular strength, power, and eye-hand or eye foot coordination.

Let us learn more about these three fitness components.

MUSCULAR STRENGTH

Muscular strength is a health-related fitness component. Muscular strength refers

to the amount of force a muscle can produce with a single maximum effort. It can be
measured during muscular contraction. The size of your muscle fibers and the ability of
nerves to activate muscle fibers are related to muscle strength.

COORDINATION

Coordination is a skill related fitness components. Coordination is the ability to

execute smooth, accurate, controlled motor responses (optimal interaction of muscle
function). Coordination is the ability to select the right muscle at the right time with
proper intensity to achieve proper action. Having coordination means you can make
different body movements at the same time.

POWER

Power is a skill-related component of physical fitness. It is the ability to transfer

energy into force in a minimum amount of time. Power likewise is defined as an amount of
work done in a particular time. Work is the product of a force on an object, and
remembers, muscular strength is the maximal amount of force muscles can exert on an
object. Power has two components namely strength and speed. Fast movements produce
power because you are using a strong force to move the muscle while doing it in a fast
speed.

ACTIVITY 2B.1: LET’S TEST YOUR SKILLS!

wall, stopwatch (optional)
Procedure: A mark is placed a certain distance from the wall (e.g. 2 meters).
The person stands behind the line and facing the wall.
The ball is thrown from one hand in an underarm action against the wall and attempted to
be caught with the other hand.
The ball is then thrown back against the wall and caught by the starting hand.
The test can continue for a nominated number of attempts or for 30 seconds.

Welcome back my dear pupil. How was your

experience in learning about muscular strength,
coordination and power? Can you distinguish now the
different activities which involve muscular strength,
coordination and power? GREAT JOB! Now, let us learn
about target games thorough this module.
Coordination is the movement of different body
parts together to produce a smooth motion. Throwing is
the movement of different body parts to achieve the
action or motion- the throw. It takes a good practice to do
the following motion of the throwing accurately. Power
does not always have to be very strong and fast.
Controlling the force you use to throw an object is
important in target games. Have you tried to play dart and
basketball? How was your experience in playing the game?

TARGET GAMES

Tumbang Preso is one of the popular Filipino

street games played by children using their
slippers to hit a tin can at the center.
As to how the game cycles, the taya, is obliged to
catch another player to take over their position of
running after the tin that keeps from throwing
away by the strikes of the players. Nevertheless,
the taya is only privileged to do so only if the
player is holding on their way a pamato and when
the tin is on its upright position. Hence, running
after another player is keeping an eye to the tin
can's position. As for the players, they have their
whole time striking the tin can and running away
from the taya, keeping themselves safe with
their pamato since making the tin fell down helps
another player from recovering. Instances like
having everyone had their turns over is biggest
climax of the game that leads them to panic, since
the taya has all their rights to capture whether
the players have a hold of their pamato or not.
cagayandeoro.com

Batuhang bola – Groups may play this

game simultaneously. The member of the
family is divided into two groups (group A
and group B). There will be one group on
each side of the playing area holding a
ball. The other group stays in the middle
and watches for the ball that would hit
them. When “GO” signal is given, the ball
will be thrown back and forth, hitting the
players at the center until everybody gets
hit. As the player is hit he or she leaves
the center of the playing area until the
area is empty. Then change positions or
roles in the game.

Tatsing – Draw a square foot figure on the
ground. Determine the players. The first player
using the pamato hits the caps out of the square
from a decided distance. The player who hits the
most number of caps out of the square wins.

Piko – To start the game the following must be

observed. Your parent will draw marked box figure
on the ground. Numbers are usually used to mark
the boxes. Players will agree on which box the will
use as basis. The players will stand the edge of the
box and each should throw their cue ball towards
their chosen box. The one who throws the balls
nearest to a line starts the game.
Do the following:
1. Drop your stone our cue ball on the first box
then bring it to the end of the figure by
pushing it through hopping.
2. When the stone or cue ball reaches the end of
the box, the players earns a point. Another
players starts.
3. If the stone or cue ball goes beyond the line,
the player loses his or her turn.

Calahoyo or Hole in
Do the following:
1. Dig a small hole in the ground.
2. Each player must hold his “pamato” and
“anak”. The pamato is a flat big stone,
while the anak is the smaller stone.
3. All players follow the marked line leading
to the hole.
4. The small stone is positioned three to
four meters away from the hole.
5. The first player hits the small stone
towards the hole for it to drop inside it.
The player will be given to chances. If he
or she was not successful, the next
player does his turn, and so do the
others.

Good day my dear pupil. How are you today? Do you feel good?
EXCELLENCE! Did you learn a lot from our previous LAS? GREAT JOB!
Always remember that learning is a continuous process.
Scatter ball is a simple striking and fielding game. When throwing a
ball, you want to send it as far as you can across the field. Power is
required to do this. When fielding (catching) a ball, you need to keep your
eye on the ball, you need to keep eye on the ball and go toward it.
Coordination is vital in throwing and catching activities. Have you tried to
play syato and Basagang palayok? How was your experience? What did you
observe while playing these games? Write your answer on the space

STRIKING/FIELDING GAMES

Patintero - The attack team must try to run

along the perpendicular lines from the home-
base to the back-end, and return without being
tagged by the defense players.
Members of the defense team are called it, and
must stand on the water lines (also "fire lines")
with both feet each time they try to tag
attacking players. The player at the center line
is called "Patotot". The perpendicular line in the
middle allows the it designated on that line to
intersect the lines occupied by the it that the
parallel line intersects, thus increasing the
chances of the runners to be trapped, even only one
member of a group is tagged the whole group will be the it.

Luksong-Baka - is a popular variation

of Luksong-tinik. One player crouches
while the other players jump over them.
The crouching player gradually stands up
as the game progresses, making it harder
for the other players to jump over them.
A person becomes the it when they touch
the baka as they jump. It will repeat
continuously until the players declare the
player or until the players decide to stop
the game. It is the Filipino version
of Leapfrog.

Luksong-tinik players serve as the base of

the tinik (thorn) by putting their right or left
feet together (soles touching gradually
building the tinik). A starting point is set by all
the players, giving enough runway for the
players to achieve a higher jump, so as not to
hit the tinik. Players of the other team start
jumping over the tinik, followed by the other
team members. Luksong tinik is a popular game
in the Philippines. It is originated in
Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, played by two teams
with equal numbers of players. Each team
designates a leader, the nanay, while the rest
