IODINE VALUE DETERMINATION

Delivery pipette
Graduated cylinder
Erlenmeyer flask
Double clamp
Iron stand
Pipette

CHEMICALS

Olive oil or castor oil

Cabon tetrachloride
Iodobromide TS
Potassium iodide TS
1.1 N sodium thiosulfate
Starch TS

PROCEDURE

1. Weigh 1 gram of sample accurately in a tared iodine flask

2. Add 10mL of carbon tetrachchloride
3. Rundown 50mL of iodobromide TS
4. Stopper the flask, shake occasionally, then allow to stand for 30minutes protected
from light.
5. Add 30mL of potassium iodide TS
6. Add 100mL of distilled H2O.
7. Titrate the liberated iodine with 0.1 N sodium thiosulfate solution until a pale blue
colors endpoint is obtained
8. Add 3mL of starch TS
9. Continue titrating with sodium thiosulfate until blue color disappears
10. Perform blank determination.
