The above charts illustrate the change in ownership of 3 electrical
appliances (washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner) and
amount of time spent by doing housework in households and the
numbers of hour spent per week per household within one century.

Overall, the chart shows that the use of vacuum cleaner in houses has
increased maximum between 1920 and 2000 which is followed by
percentage households with refrigerator. The households with washing
machine have the least increment in percentage over the century. Also,
the charts shows that people are spending less time on households
activities day by day.

Over the century, the percentage of households with vacuum cleaner


has increased from about 2% to 100%. Similarly, the use of refrigerator
has also increased by 100% over the period. Likewise, the households
with washing machine have reached to 40% to about 68% in 100 years.

The second chart shows that people has decreased by 50 hours per
week to about 12 hours per week per household.

are living in which were built many years ago. The interest might be
caused due to the curiosity of the people, safety of oneself and the
superstitious belief of being haunted.

Having knowledge about the house in which one is living makes the
person satisfied. After knowing the background of house, people can
know the historical events related to the houses. The background may
provide fascinating facts about the house. If we know the way that the
house was built in past times, it helps us to know about the safety of
house and we can learn older methods of building house. Also, we can
maintain the house accordingly if it is needed. From it, we can know the
durability and safety of the house to prevent any disaster. Likewise,
some people are interested to know the history because of having
superstitious belief of being haunted.

In the modern time, learning from internet or asking about the house
to local seniors can be reliable way of learning about the history of
house. If the house is older, we can find the related information on
internet according to our need. Similarly, talking to local senior people
may help us to get information about the history of house and events
that took place with the passage of time.

In conclusion, the people’s motivation to learn about their houses could


go from having simple to curiosity to safety and superstitious belief.
