SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
This Sunday is the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. This is no other than the Eucharist, the Holy Mass which is the source and summit of Catholic life and faith. The Catholic Church has taught for more than 2000 years that Jesus is truly present in the Mass. The following will help us strengthen our faith in the REAL PRESENCE of Christ in the Mass. 1. The Old Testament food in the desert, called manna, prefigures the Eucharist. 2. Jesus, at the Last Supper, gave us His Body and Blood in the form of bread and wine. 3. In the gospel, we read that Jesus multiplied the bread to feed the multitude. 4. In the Second Reading today, Paul, talking about the first-century Christians gathered in worship, connects the bread and cup at their gathering to the Body and Blood of Christ. 5. John 6 speaks in detail about the Bread from heaven, which is the Flesh and Blood of Christ. It is to be the Food for the life of the world. 6. The Eucharistic miracles in many parts of the world prove that the bread became real flesh and the wine real blood. 7. Many saints and martyrs lived and died for their faith in the real presence of Jesus in every Eucharistic celebration. We become what we eat. If we eat the Flesh and drink the Blood of Christ in the Eucharist with fervent faith, sincere love, and strong hope, we will be like Him in glory.
Peters Pence
Next week we will take up the Peters Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Through your generosity we can cast the peace of Christ upon the world.
