Description:
In this CAS project, many actions will take place to help the "Fundação
Iniciativa", which helps many children, currently 38, victims of abandonment and
violence to have a new home, known as "casa lar". All students from 11th and 12th
grade will be divided into categories that will be developed to fulfill the different
necessities that the foundation has to give better living conditions to the kids. I am
going to be a part of the toys' donation group since I believe that it will be extremely
helpful for the children to have things that can bring them joy during their days and
because I think I will be able to work with these things and divide them in an
organized manner. Also, my group will be responsible for receiving donations of
various toys, appropriate from ages 0-18, besides selecting the ones that are useful
and trying to repair the damaged products. Finally, we will give these toys to all the
children that are living in the "casa lar".

Goal & Strands:

With our part of the project, we aim to develop a direct service of helping
children to have a source of entertainment that will come from enjoying many toys
that we will be able to gather and donate to them. It may be difficult to receive a
number of items that will be enough for all kids; thus, we will need to be resourceful
to find ways to maximize the number of toys we receive. Also, our creativity will be
used since we are expected to communicate well with other people to convince them
that this cause is worth supporting. Finally, receiving donations may be challenging
to manage, and organizational skills are key to make everything work in time.

Personal development & Learning Outcomes:

1. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
2. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
3. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
4. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
5. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
6. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in
the process
CAS Stages

1. Investigation:
In this CAS project, many actions will take place to help the "Fundação
Iniciativa", which helps many children, currently 38, victims of abandonment and
violence to have a new home, known as "casa lar". All students from 11th and 12th
grade will be divided into categories that will be developed to fulfill the different
necessities that the foundation has to give better living conditions to the kids. I am
going to be a part of the toys' donation group since I believe that it will be extremely
helpful for the children to have things that can bring them joy during their days, and
because I think I will be able to work with these things and divide them in an
organized manner. Also, my group will be responsible for receiving donations of
various toys, appropriate from ages 0-18, besides selecting the ones that are useful
and trying to repair the damaged products. Finally, we will be able to give these toys
to all the children that are living in the "casa lar".

2. Preparation:
Firstly, we will set up a space inside the school in which people will be able to
leave their donations at any time of the day. Then we will ask the students from the
communication group to reinforce the need to donate toys for kids of all ages during
the campaign of the project. Amanda Nichele will be responsible for fixing any of the
items that are broken. Arthur De Santi will be collecting the donations and
categorizing them by dividing their suitability for each type of toy. Each week, Arthur
will check the conditions of the toy and see which of them will need some kind of
work done, whiles the division based on the category of the toy will be happening.
Then, Amanda will take these toys in bad conditions to repair and ensure that they
are good enough to donate. Both of us will also clean them if necessary. Therefore,
we will be certain that all the toys being given to the children are perfect to be
enjoyed by them.

3. Action:
This plan was created in order to understand what will be needed from us and
the actions that we will take. We divided ourselves into groups, each one responsible
for each task. We will receive our donations from the Logistics group, store them,
and, if needed, clean or repair them. After some time of donation, if we need more
toys, we will try to reach out to the students and remind them of the importance of
giving away these toys that kids want. The communication group may be able to talk
to all students in the school. Also, we are going to speak with family and friends that
are willing to help the project with useful toys. Closer to the end date of the donations
(09/07) we will certify that we have a good amount of toys and that they are ready to
be donated to kids. When these steps above are completed, we can take the
donations to the homes.

4. Reflection & 5. Demonstration:

These steps will be done when the project is completed.
