Chile during different periods of time has been faced with earthquakes of different

magnitude, which has characterized it as a seismic country, which brings consequently that
the seismic-resistant design regulations must be constantly reviewed and updated to keep
them in line with the needs of the national practice. Currently, industrial structures are
governed by the regulation “NCh 2369 Diseño sísmico de estructuras e instalaciones
industriales” which seeks to avoid the stoppage of productive operations or otherwise keep
them to a minimum, in addition to avoiding the collapse of the structures and safeguarding
the life of the workers.

The NCh2369 regulation was made official in 2003 based on the engineering practice
present in the country at that time, which has resulted in designs with high lateral
resistance, where inelastic incursion in the structural elements is not expected. However,
the explosive growth of the industry, the conflicts with foreign regulations and especially
what happened during the 27-F earthquake, forced to review some parameters to implement
a new update NCh 2369.

The objective of the present report is to analyze the seismic dissipation mechanisms
through the behavior of the denominate seismic fuses. This is done through an archetype
space of industrial structures based on inverted V braced frames with a period range of 0.3
seconds and 0 85 seconds is used for Seismic Zone II - Ground B (ZSII-SB) and Seismic
Zone III - Ground C (ZSIII-SC); to this structures an analysis is performed on them for the
design level (DLE) and for a probable maximum seismic level (SMP) based on 2 main
stages: the first, a nonlinear analysis considering anchorages and the second, also
incorporating nonlinear bracings.

The results obtained show the influence of the seismic zone on the designs, since for ZSII-
SB the results obtained are consistent with the provisions of the preliminary design, since it
is observed that the anchor bolts act as the main seismic fuse, while for ZSIII-SC there are
some contradictions in which the bracing acts as the main seismic fuse.
