1862- Joseph’s vocation was put to a severe test (he yielded to his father’s desire of leavening the
seminary)

December,1863 - he fell seriously of typhoid fever.

February,1864 - he went back to seminary in ASTI.

September 19,1868 - he was ordained to the priesthood in cathedral of ASTI.

Bishop Carlo Savio-Bishop of Asti who ordained Joseph to priesthood.

-he made Joseph Marello stayed in Asti to be his secretary.

-Became the constant friend and counselor of Joseph Marello.

November 21,1869-Bishop Savio chose Fr. Marello to accompany him to Rome to attend the Vatican
council and there he met Cardinal Gioacchino Pecci who later became Pope Leo XIII

December 8,1869 - Pope Pius IX opened the council.

July 1870 - Bishop Savio and Fr. Marello returned to Asti.

Bishop Giuseppe Ronco - the successor of Bishop Savio.
