IV. CONTENT:

Exploring the Sea

Your teacher is sure that you have heard about blog before. They are very trending
nowadays and there is a big possibility that maybe some of you are actually doing blogging
already. On this module, you will be more familiar about blog as well as the terminologies being used in this form of
creative nonfiction.

BLOG

Blog is generally defined as a frequently (or regularly) updated journal or diary on the internet. Blog is not
a genre. It is more of a way through which information is shared, opinions are expressed, and stories are told.

A blog (a shortened version of “weblog”) is an online journal or informational website displaying information
in reverse chronological order, with the latest posts appearing first, at the top. It is a platform where a writer or a
group of writers share their views on an individual subject.

The content of a blog typically includes text, pictures, videos, animated GIFs and even scans from old physical
offline diaries or journals and other hard copy documents.

Forms of blog
A. Podcast
A podcast is an episodic series of spoken word digital audio files that a user can download to a personal
device for easy listening. Streaming applications and podcasting services provide a convenient and integrated way to
manage a personal consumption queue across many podcast sources and playback devices.
A podcast series usually features one or more recurring hosts engaged in a discussion about a particular topic or
current event. Discussion and content within a podcast can range from carefully scripted to completely improvised.
Podcasts combine elaborate and artistic sound production with thematic concerns ranging from scientific research to
slice-of-life journalism. Many podcast series provide an associated website with links and show notes, guest
biographies, transcripts, additional resources, commentary, and even a community forum dedicated to discussing the
show's content.

B. Vlog
Vlog stands for a video blog or video log, and refers to a form of blog where most or all of the content is in a
video format. Vlog posts consist of creating a video of yourself where you talk on a particular subject such as
reporting or reviewing a product or an event. It can even serve as a way to share your artistic process or provide a
tutorial guide on a creative practice or topic. Some vloggers even use it as a means to share new performance art or
music they have created. In fact, just like blogs, you can vlog about almost anything.
The term vlog is also used by video streamers or Youtuber’s who do not use a blog but post scheduled updates
via other means like YouTube and other video websites; their profile often promotes them as vloggers. You can also
do live broadcasts from social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram. Once you create your video (and edit

it to make it look and sound great), you can upload it online or embed the video within a post on your blog or website
so your all followers can see your latest update.
The goals of vlogging are similar to those of blogging. These include engaging, growing, and monetizing an
online audience for your brand. There are a wide range of ways to do this, including affiliate marketing and display
advertising.
Vlogs can also follow a number of different formats and lengths, which may be appropriate for different
audiences and industries. Vloggers and influencers use unique and catchy introduction to gain more followers.

Types of blog
In the blogging world, there are different kinds of blogs and bloggers who blog to reach specific goals. In the
next content, you are going to look at the types of blogs and bloggers that exist.
A. Personal
The personal blog does not focus on a specific topic or audience. Bloggers write about what interests
them: their hobbies, beliefs, daily life and etc., and they attract the types of people that share the same interests.
The writer or influencer just wants to make a difference and share knowledge or experience.

Example:

Alex Gonzaga Vlogs

Alex Gonzaga, is a Filipina television host,

actress, singer, comedian, entrepreneur, vlogger, and
author. She talks about her life, her job, her life as a wife.
She also shares tips for young people when it comes to
finding the right person whom you wanted to be with for
the rest of your life and how to strengthen your personal
relationship with the Lord.

B. Niche
Instead of merely focusing on broad topics, niche blogs are very specific. With a niche blog, you can focus
more on a particular topic thus making research rather easy. Popular topics include:

Gaming Medicine
Comedy/pranks Business
Sports Current Events
Travel Food

Health and Lifestyle Writing

Fashion DIY
Education Politics

Music Movies

The focus of this blog is the business itself- their own products or services with the purpose of increasing
traffic for their business in order to gain customers. The topics are chosen in order to attract visitors that are
interested in their specific industry. They are run by corporations and could be called enterprise blogs.
Their goals focus on capturing leads for their sales funnel. This includes landing pages, calls to action,
email lists, specialized contact forms, offers, etc. The idea is that visitors will be attracted by the content and
then move through the sales funnel into the call to action.

Example: Luxury Salon company

E. Affiliate
The content for this type of blog focuses on products. It is usually in the form of product reviews or
tutorials of using the products. The call to action is to purchase the product through the blog’s affiliate link.

Examples: Skin care routine

Make up Tutorials

Ayne Bernos

F. Artist’s blog/vlog
An artistic blog focuses on any type of art that the artist creates, such as paintings, drawings, sculpture,
music, photography, writing, etc. They often include galleries, shops where you can purchase or commission
work, articles that show the work, provide tutorials, podcasts, etc. They are successful when they build a
following for their art. It might not require a large audience; just enough to support the artist.
Example: Solenn Heussaff

G. Guest blogs/vlogs
The content of these blogs is written by guest writers who are typically experts in the field. This is
different from hiring writers. This is bringing in guest bloggers that already have a following of their own in
order to grow the audience.
This leaves the blog owner free to manage and promote the blog while providing content that might even be
beyond the blog owner’s expertise. The blog owner will sometimes write some of the content as well, but they
are not the primary authors.

Example: Toni Talks by Toni Gonzaga-Soriano

Toni Talks by Toni Gonzaga-Soriano

SOCIAL STUDIES - Republic Act No. 10175, Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012

The cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 was recently enacted in the Philippines in line with the State’s

Taking the Gold

As a person who has grown up in the digital age, it is important for you to have awareness about the
proper and responsible usage of internet and social media platforms. “Think before you click”, cliché as it may
sound, but it is still relevant and timely nowadays. The main message of the slogan is to refrain being hurtful in
messages posted online, to report cyberbullying, to be aware that what is uploaded remains in the public domain
forever and may be abused to harm the person or others. A person’s digital footprint also determines their public
profile based on information available on the internet.
As a responsible internet and social media user, you can make the best use of the new technologies and
you should be fully aware of the risks and dangers which may not appear as dangerous at first. It is crucial that
you should understand that behind a screen or a digital profile there might be an unknown world which could
compromise your wellbeing and of those around you. There is nothing wrong with saying “no” when someone
ask you to do something that you are not comfortable with and seems inappropriate.

Do not feel bad or intimidated to stop a chat thread or refuse a friend request from someone unknown. To
avoid cyberbullying and identity theft, it is advised to keep personal information, such as phone number and email
address private, familiarize yourself with privacy settings, and make proper use of them.
Why it is very important to think before you click?
 If one fails to think before clicking, he might destroy somebody's life.
 If one fails to think before clicking, he might destroy his own life.
 If one fails to think before clicking, he can create confusion and misunderstanding to the
community.
 If one fails to think before clicking, he might cause panic which can lead to injuries, panic
attacks, and a lot more negative effect.
