K yle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers are slated to open camp on Tuesday. They
won’t have incumbent starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on hand in Santa Clara.
Garoppolo underwent offseason shoulder surgery and was just cleared to practice. At the
same time, San Francisco gave the Super Bowl signal caller permission to seek a trade.
The obvious backdrop here is the presence of second-year quarterback Trey Lance as San
Francisco’s likely Week 1 starter. It’s been a foregone conclusion that the 49ers would move
off Garoppolo in favor of a youngster that they traded three first-round picks for in the 2021
NFL Draft.
In speaking with Tim Kawakami of The Athletic recently, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan
seemed to all but confirm that reality.

Shanahan and general manager John Lynch will hold their annual training camp press
conference on Tuesday.
Garoppolo, 30, was excused from offseason activities as he rehabbed from the
aforementioned shoulder surgery. Even then, his presence would have been awkward given
the dynamics at play here.
The backdrop here is a lack of a true market for the veteran quarterback. Pretty much every
quarterback-needy team filled out that spot during the offseason. Right now, the division-rival
Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants have been linked to Garoppolo the most.

I t was a slow week in the world of NHL free agency, with two of the top names
- Nazem Kadri and John Klingberg - still unsigned. Here's a look at 10 of the
best UFAs still on the market.
Nearly two full weeks have passed since the start of NHL free agency, and two of
the biggest names on the board still remain.
Nazem Kadri and John Klingberg have been linked to several suitors each, but
both seem to be biding their time to sign a contract. Both are high-impact players
that most teams with the cap space to make it work would be interested in, but
with so many big RFAs still available, and teams looking to make their cap
situations work, it could still be a while.
With that said, there's still some value to be found in free agency with some other
names available. Here's a look at 10 of the best on the market:
1. Nazem Kadri, C, 31
Kadri picked an incredible year for a breakout season, scoring 28 goals and 87
points in the regular season and 15 points in 16 playoff games en route to a
Stanley Cup run. He's poised for a long-term deal, but teams will need to get
creative to bring him in.
Klingberg never found the offensive flair that made him a 67-point defender back
