Magnolia Baby Shoes

Lena’s Patterns © 2010 - 2012

Thank you for buying Lena’s Patterns!
Here you will find a list of all you need to finish your project,
instructions, accompanied by color pictures and a pattern for
each size from 0 to 24 months. These are approximate age sizes.
For those that are used to using patterns with build in seam
allowance, cut the dashed outline and sew with 1/4 inch foot.
For those that prefer adding their own size seam allowance,
add it to the solid line.
Please, read through all instructions before beginning.
It is advisable to measure the baby’s foot before choosing size.
Sizes are tentative because of differences in babies growth.
Materials for the Magnolia Baby Ballerina Shoe:
- 1 piece 20cm/50cm (8in/20in) pink plaid cotton fabric
- 1 piece 20cm/50cm (8in/20in) complementing cotton fabric
for lining
- ½ in velcro (male and female) for the straps
- 2 small pink buttons for the flowers

INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1: Print and cut
accurately the pattern pieces.
Cut all pieces - 2 x top fabric
+ 2x lining.

Step 2: Start with sewing the straps.

Top fabric and lining facing, sew
leaving one short side open. Trim
close to the seam and turn around
Press.

Step 3: Place strap on the top
part, right sides facing.

Step 4: Place on top of them

the lining, right side facing
right side of the pink fabric.
Pin and sew the inner curve
seam.

Step 5: Make small cuts,

perpendicular of the seam,
around the curve. This is to
ensure smooth curve, when
turned around. Be careful not to
cut the seam.

Step 6: Turn around and press
with steam.

Step 7: Join the both ends

open and pin the middle.
Sew the back seam.

Step 8: Press the back seam open.

Step 9:Push the lining inside and
press all edges.

Step 10: Place sole’s pieces

wrong sides facing.

Step 11: Place on top of each

sole the top part, that should be
attached to it. Make sure you
have the straps closing on the
outer side of shoe.

Step 12: Pin the top part to the sole,
right sides facing.
Sew, using short stitch and very
slowly. The smaller the shoes, the
slower you need to sew the curves.

Step 13: Trim the excess fabric

and clean the edges, using
your machine’s zig-zag stitch.

Step 14: Cut small pieces velcro

and sew the male to the body
of the shoe. The female sew to
the strap’s end. If you do the
opposite, the baby’s socks will
stick to the velcro every time : )

Step 16: To form a good shape
of the shoe, press with steam the
seam on both sides of the sole.

Step 17: Now the shoes are

finished and you can embellish
them as you like.
I choose the magnolia flower,
which I make of white cotton.
It is very easy.

Step 1: For each flower, cut

4 big and 4 smaller petals.

Step 2: Using sharp long needle,
stitch all 4 big petals as shown
on the picture. Stitch them
one after another, without
cutting the thread.

Step 3: Again without cutting

the thread from the big petals,
stitch the same way
the smaller petals and gather
them on top of the big ones.

Step 4: Sew the pink button, again

without cutting the thread and
sew the whole flower to the strap.
Stitch it through the button.
This way you’ll reinforce the flower
and there won’t be visible stitching
outside the button.
