UNDERSTANDING DISCIPLINES AND

SUBJECTS

INTRODUCTION
Many subjects are taught in schools. Each subject has unique
advantages. Some outcomes may be the combination of subjects, or
some may help to achieve and strengthen the goals. Let us understand
importance of few subjects taught in schools.

We are going to discuss some of the Subjects in school curriculum


• Mathematics
• Science
• Arts and Crafts
Core Subjects in School curriculum

Mathematics
Mathematics is extremely important in our society. Almost all sciences rely on
math and logical thinking, and also go hand in hand. Back in the Greek times, it was
only taught to the upper class. These days maths can be grippingly complex subject at
the higher end of study, but it is still extremely important for almost all aspects of life.
Mathematics gives a chance to create a world with number.
Content of the School subject Mathematics

▪ Numbers, simplification, four operation, money, metric system,


reading clock, basic Geometrical concept.
▪ Number Fractions, decimal fraction Money, measurement Idea of
simple Geometric term, simple interest ratio proportion.
▪ General mathematics number system Sets, Algebra-expression,
equations, factors, Geometry-Mensuration, Discount shares graphs
compound interest.
Processes of Maths

• Connecting mathematical principles with the daily life of children


• Making children think rationally, or do thing inductively or
deductively.
• Developing logical reasoning and make the children to solve
mathematical problems.
• Developing the skills of analysing and synthesizing the mathematical
problems
Science
Science fulfils the purpose of the world. It demonstrates to us how things work and why
they do so. Science is the most mysterious subject because there are lots of things to be
discovered and that what makes Science such as an important subject. Science includes
a vast amount of subjects including biology, astronomy, computer science, geology,
physics, and more.
Content of the school subject science include

❖ Science in everyday situations
❖ Understanding the world around the learners
❖ Socio-scientific issues
❖ Sources in and outside schooling
❖ Science as a way of knowing, thinking, and acting

❖ natural Resources and its managemen
❖ Improvementt in food Resource
❖ Emicaland chemical reactions
❖ Metals and Non metal
❖ Lifee processes
Processes of Science:
▪ Critical observation of the natural phenomenon
▪ Developing inquiry on observable phenomenon
▪ Establishing linking and corelating the scientific ideas with physical happenings
▪ Engaging in scientific experimentation
▪ Natural and scientific exploration of facts and ideas and their validation
▪ Validating the result of scientific inquiry
▪ Developing scientific thinking ability to make abstract concepts.
Art and Craft
Art education Programme should comprise, handling of the material for
drawing, painting ,collage, clay modelling and construction of puppets;
creating artistic things by free expression method, learn simple things of
visual arts, knowledge of works of well known artists etc. Preparing posters,
Placards, and invitation cards related to celebrations of national days like
Republic day, Independence Day etc.
Content of School Subject Art and Craft:

▪ Drawing and Painting and sculpture/Clay modelling


▪Activities of dance, Music, drama, and craft

• Drawing and painting
• Collage making
• Print making
• Photography and computer graphics
• Rangoli/Mandna/ Wall painting(traditional Art forms)

• Sculpture(using locally available materials)
• Clay modelling

• Carving and Relief work
• Paper Mache
• Mask making

• Developing of fine motor skills
• Enhances dexterity
• Improvement of hand–eye coordination
• Learn to appreciate art and culture
• Enhances self expression
• Helps in socializing
• Enhances creativity
Conclusion:
The subjects taught in schools are of great importance
because it helps to achieve the objects of education, in multiple ways.
Some of the aspects which make learning school subjects inevitable for
students are, the school subjects which equip the students with the
skills and competencies required to lead a quality life. Each of the
subjects taught in school like Mathematics, Science, Arts and Crafts
helps to achieve specific objectives. Each contribute in its own way.
