The scientists and doctors have been able to link smoking with respiratory
illness. Researchers have identified negative health effects from smoking
cigarettes such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease,
and other health problems relating to nearly every organ of the body. Nicotine,
the psychoactive drug in tobacco, makes cigarettes highly addictive. About half of
cigarette smokers die of tobacco-related disease and lose on average 14 years of
life.
First of all, we agree with the opinion of scientists and doctors that smoking
can cause respiratory disease. As we know cigarettes have several effects on
smokers, one of which is lowering the immune system. The decrease in immunity
is marked by the body's lack of ability to fight the germs that cause infection
which are masked through the smoked cigarettes. However, cigarettes don't only
have a negative effect on people who consume it, but can also be harmful and
have a negative effect on people around smokers.
On the other hand, some people think that smoking is also beneficial for
health. The benefits regarding of smoking are reducing the risk of Parkinson's
disease, recovering quickly from heart disease, preventing asthma and allergies,
nicotine killing germs that cause tuberculosis, and reducing the risk of obesity.
To sum up, we think that smoking can be addictive for anyone who tries it,
but remember that smoking can also be life threatening and one of the biggest
causes of death in the world.
