STUDENT LAPTOP SCHEME

As part of the package of COVID supports for higher and further education institutions, the Department
of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science has allocated funding for a once-off
COVID-19 grant to support disadvantaged students in the higher education sector in accessing ICT
devices.
This grant will allow RCSI to provide eligible students with a laptop to assist them in completing their
chosen course.

Eligibility
Full-time and part-time students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) are eligible to receive a device
under this grant. The grant covers both incoming first year students and returning students.

RCSI is required to allocate laptops based on target groups identified in the National Plan for Equity of
Access to Higher Education 2015 – 2021:
o Students disadvantaged by socio-economic barriers
o First time mature students
o Students with disabilities
o Part-time/flexible learning students
o Students who hold further education qualifications
o Students who are members of the Traveller and Roma communities
o Lone parents
o Members of ethnic minorities

Eligibility will be assessed on a needs basis and students must demonstrate a verifiable need for the
device. Students will have to submit evidence to RCSI in order to prove eligibility. Appropriate evidence
and supporting documents must be submitted with the application form below.

How To Apply
Applications can be made by completing and returning the Laptop Scheme Application Form below.
Completed forms along with supporting documentation must be emailed
to studentservices@rcsi.ie (stating “laptop scheme application” in the subject line). Hard copies cannot
be accepted.

This grant is not guaranteed for all students.
The laptop remains the property of RCSI and must be returned upon completion of your studies.
Non-eligible:
International, non-EU fee-paying students are not considered eligible for support under this Grant.

Supporting Documentation Required

DARE Student Letter/Email from DARE deeming you eligible for the DARE scheme
and confirmation from SUSI that you are eligible for a maintenance
grant or BTEA.

HEAR Student Letter/Email from HEAR deeming you eligible for the HEAR scheme.

Student registered with the Written confirmation from the RCSI Learning & Disability Support
RCSI Learning & Disability service that you are registered with the service and do not require a
Support service specific laptop.
Along with evidence of one of the following;
o Back to Education Allowance (BTEA)
o Letter from SUSI confirming you are in receipt of a
maintenance grant.
o Jobseekers Benefit
o Jobseekers Allowance
o One Parent Family
o Disability Allowance
o Qualified Adults of Working Age
o Carers Allowance
o Farm Assist/Fish Assist
