What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

The learning goal for this lesson idea is for students to able to recount written text including key
details orally by creating a podcast. I want students to get familiar with using instructional software
tools.
Selected Instructional Software Tool: Anchor

Description of Software: Anchor by Spotify is a software created to make online podcast.

Anchor lest you credit, edit, and host a podcast for free which is great.
you're able to do this by using the mobile site or by downloading the app.
Anchor provides creators with unlimited free hosting service and includes an option to
move their podcasting service from other service providers (e.g., Podbean, SoundCloud) for
free. Anchor makes it easy to set-up a podcast station for listeners to subscribe to for
notifications about new episodes. As an educator, you could create a class podcast station
or have your students collaboratively design a podcast series.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an
outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:

The activity that I plan for students to do is to choose a written text or story from the stories we
have read so far in the class or check out a short story book from the library. After they do this, I will
explain to them that we will doing a. podcast on our chosen story. I will explain to them what a
podcast is and how to create one. I will be sure to communicate to students that in the podcast they
need to talk about the man idea, main characters, key details, and any other thing they wanted to
discuss about their text. I will make sure to tell them to keep it under 3 minutes. I will make my
students aware of their goals my simply restating them as we through this lesson. I will be able to
provide feedback to my students by walking around and guiding my students when needed and also
just giving tips and input. Finally to conclude the lesson by having the students re state our goals and
what they learned.

Managing student learning:

This lesson will definitely cause for students to become active social learners because they are
interacting with the learning process oppose to passively taking the information in. Before students
can use the tool they have to show me what they plan to say and I have to approve and make sure
all the details are correct.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This lesson supports all students and supports al of UDL. Students are able to be engaged and are provided
another way for representation and action and expression. Allowing my students to create a podcast instead
of just doing a worksheet and turning it in allows for my student to represent their work in another way.
Doing the podcast is also fun so I think my students will be motivated.
Reflection: After designing this lesson I feel as if the activity that I created will impact my students
by expanding knowledge on how to recount stories as well as getting more familiar with
technology. I look forward to teaching my students about podcast and how to create them. I think
this will be really fun and something they can go home and do for fun with their parents.

After designing this lesson idea, how do you feel the activities you created will impact student
learning? What part of the lesson do you look forward to implementing with students? Explain why.
