ABSTRACT
The way people interact has changed dramatically as a result of recent technological
breakthroughs. Previous studies were reviewed, field observations were made, and an
online poll was completed to establish how engaged people are with their mobile
phones, other technology, and each other in face-to-face interactions. According to the
findings, technology has a good and bad impact on both the quality and quantity of face-
to-face contact. Even though people are aware of the decline in face-to-face
communication due to technology, more than 62 percent of those seen on Elon's campus
continue to use mobile devices in public. Everything has both a positive and negative
impact, and the impact of technology on the communication process also comes as
mixed baggage. Mobiles and the Internet are the necessities these days. Technology has
transformed the once big and far world into a tiny global village. Thanks to technology,
we now have the power to communicate with anybody on the other side of the world. The
most prominent negative effect of technology – the charm of the good old world is
missing. The letters and lengthy face-to-face conversations have gone away and have
been replaced by texting or chatting. As you can see, the impact is both positive and
negative. Nevertheless, logically thinking, technology has bettered the communication
process and has done negligible harm. The positive points of technological
advancements cover up the negative points. It all depends on how we use these means;
use the technological means of communication for sane purposes, and do not abuse
them for malicious motives.

INTRODUCTION
Technology impacts communication, for better or worse, since it is a part of our daily life.
It affects how we work, amuses ourselves, and communicate. One might argue that
technological communication is advantageous from a commercial standpoint. Technology
communication has a constant impact on people. New communication patterns develop as
technology progresses, and they often become the standard. Communication is influenced by
technology because it makes it simpler, faster, and more efficient. It enables us to keep track of
discussions and therefore improves customer service. It is also simpler to collect consumer data
and enhance the overall customer experience thanks to technology. (Patel, 2021)
Everything has both a good and bad effect, and technology's impact on communication
is no exception. These days, mobile phones and access to the Internet are required. The bulk of
us would feel something was lacking in our lives if we did not have access to mobile phones or
the Internet. Consider a person's everyday routine in today's technologically advanced society.
The day starts with a "good morning message" and concludes with a "goodnight" message on
social networking sites. The social networking sites are like a virtual universe in and of
themselves. Throughout the day, cell phones and the Internet are used for communication.
Emails, teleconferencing, video conferencing, networking sites, and other technologies may
help speed up and simplify the process. The most common modes of communication are mobile
phones, emails, and social networking sites in the present age. (TheParentCentre, 2020)
The continuous need for social contact, particularly in a nation split by over 7,000 islands
and with a rising number of foreign workers, was one of the primary reasons contributing to the
Philippines' growing number of social network users. Filipinos spend more than four hours on
average on social media platforms, the most in the Asia Pacific area. Networking sites like
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, for example, provided a means for family and friends to
interact and bridge distances, allowed content producers to distribute information via digital
media, and allowed for a more extensive reach of promotional marketing through online
advertising. (Statista Research Department, 2021)
Social media and technology have advanced dramatically over the past two decades.
Each has contributed to the evolution of the other in their way. People may now use social
media on their cellphones and laptops, thanks to technological advances. Because everyone
has smartphones in their pocket or handbag, individuals are now communicating via social
media wherever they go. (Bhatla, 2020)
Definition of terms
To achieve a shared understanding, the following words are theoretically and commonly
defined.
Social Media Platform - is a new way to communicate and interact with other people
and it is adopted by businesses to have the ability of simpler and quicker connection and share
pieces of information with many people simultaneously.
Global connectivity - is the connection of a single person to another using the internet.
According to the World Bank Group, "Connectivity is the context is defined as a country's
relative position in that network in terms of the total push and pull it exerts on air traffic." The
other country would communicate through global connectivity known as the internet or the
global air transport network.
The Internet provides the essential needs of people such as communication via social media, e-
mail, chatrooms, newsgroups, and able help the students with their studies and research.
WEB 2.0 - is a design pattern and business model for the next generation of software.
According to Will Kenton, "Web 2.0 is the description of the current state of the web." Web 2.0
refers to the new age of internet applications that have transformed the digital era.
This study’s goal is to discover into what extent technology has affected
communication.
Technology has transformed the once big and far world into a tiny global village. Thanks
to technology, we now have the power to communicate with anybody on the other side of the
world (Harankhedkar,2020). Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and
think. It helps society and determines how people interact with each other daily. It has made
learning more interactive and collaborative, this helps people better engage with the material
that they are learning and have trouble with (Davis,2021). With the emergence of new media
technologies consumers have been empowered to ‘filter’ the information they want to receive.
This allows them to have a choice of which news to watch or what information to listen to
(Palmer, 2003). Communications technology has certainly made life easier for many, especially
for those who had to telecommute long distances to work (Behrens,2018).
Critical thinking and reflection. With the large volume of information that they access,
students are induced to learn to think critically: Which information is accurate? Is this
information useful for the homework or subject at hand? Is this information validated by multiple
sources and by the latest research findings? Students learn not to simply accept any data, no
5
matter how readily available. With the guidance of their teacher, they can practice critical
thought.
Preparation for jobs later. The jobs that students will be hired for, and the professions
they practice, will require them to have working knowledge of computer use in the workplace, as
well as for communication and information processing. Having students use computers and the
Internet in the classroom prepares them for this future work environment.
According to Niehaves, B. & Plattfaut, R. Eur, J Inf Syst, (2014), is that Information
technology (IT) has significantly changed the way we live and work. For instance, Internet-
based and electronic businesses have complemented and sometimes even superseded
traditional offline channels. Online channels offer distinct value (e.g., constant availability)
and, due to their cost structure, are often less expensive than store-bound distributions. As a
result, companies often establish online channels as ‘privileged channels’ to support their
objectives of cost-cutting and service optimization. An example of a privileged channel is the
online check-in with airlines that is currently strongly incentivized over the conventional
counter check-in. IT is also becoming an important building block in other areas. According to
(Whitley & Hosein, 2008), smart homes and national digital identity cards are two examples of
IT steadily diffusing into more areas of our daily lives. Information technology (IT) has

According to Latour (1990) is it possible to devise a set of concepts that could replace
the technology/society divide? This set of new concepts - association and substitution - might
help to rephrase some of the traditional questions of social order and especially that of the
durability of domination of power. However, instead of using different tools to analyze power and
weakness, it is argued that power and domination are simply different values of variables that
should be studied in their whole range. By reconstructing networks, it is argued that a full
description of power and domination may be obtained.
According to McFarlan (1984), it is that as it moves from a strictly supporting role in the
back office, computer-based technology offers new competitive opportunities. A company can
use this technology, for example, to build a barrier to entry, to build in switching costs, and even,
sometimes, to completely change the basis of competition. This author shows how some
companies have seized the advantage, while others, more complacent, have ended up playing
the difficult and expensive game of catch-up ball. He also points out that it is important for
executives to make this competitive analysis in assessing where IS fits in their companies, since
in some cases it appropriately plays a support role and can add only modestly to the value of a
company’s products, while in other settings it is at the core of their competitive survival.
Understanding where a company fits on this spectrum can help the CEO determine both the
proper level of expenditure and the proper management structure for IS.
The availability of mobile devices was linked to the quality of real-life, in-person social
interactions in one research. Researchers discovered that talks in the absence of mobile
communication devices were assessed as much superior to those in the presence of a mobile
device in a natural field experiment (Misra, Cheng, Genevie, & Yuan, 2014).
Przybylski and Weinstein (2012) found comparable results in another study, proving that
the presence of mobile communication devices in social contexts disrupts human connections.
7
The authors discovered evidence in two tests indicating these gadgets had detrimental impacts
on proximity, connection, and conversation quality, especially when discussing personal
matters.
Brignall and van Valey (2005) looked at the effects of technology on "contemporary
cyber-youth" — those who have grown up with the Internet as a part of their daily lives and
social interactions. The two writers observed that there had been a considerable drop in face-to-
face interaction among the young due to the widespread use of the Internet in education,
communication, and entertainment. They believe that reducing the number of time adolescents
spend interacting face-to-face will have "major ramifications for their development of social skills
and self-presentation" in the future (p. 337).
Schiffrin et al. (2010) also argue for the negative effects of online CTs. They found that
people generally perceived computer-mediated communication as less valuable than face-to-
face communication and suggested replacing face-to-face with online communication is likely to
affect relationships and well-being negatively. In line with this, they did find an association
between Internet use and reduced well-being. Other studies have also found negative
associations between particular types of online communication, well-being, and relationship
satisfaction (Chesley, 2005; Kross et al., 2013). Some studies further point out that some
individuals (e.g., those who are lonely or have poor social skills) run the danger of developing
compulsive, harmful Internet use behaviors (Kim et al., 2009; Musses et al., 2014)
Several other studies have provided support for this hypothesis. For example,
Valkenburg and Peter (2007) found that online communication in adolescents was positively
associated with time spent with existing friends and the quality of these friendships. Similarly,
Wang and Wang (2011) found that instant messaging among adolescents was used with
current friends and positively associated with well-being. They suggest: "it may be that online
communication with existing friends can promote users' interaction in offline settings, which
could strengthen their closeness to friends and improve their subjective well-being. Several
other investigations have supported this theory. Valkenburg and Peter (2007), adolescent
internet conversation was positively related to academic achievement. The amount of time
spent with existing friends, as well as the quality of those friendships. Wang and his colleagues
are in the same boat. Wang (2011) discovered that most adolescent instant messaging was
utilized for communicating with other adolescent friends and is favorably linked to happiness.
"It's possible that online," they say. Users' interaction in offline circumstances can be boosted by
communicating with existing friends. People increase their subjective well-being by
strengthening their bonds with friends. In general, several research has discovered beneficial
links between online behavior and offline behavior.
Communication, well-being, and relationships (Bessière et al., 2008; Grieve et al., 2013;
Shaw) are essential factors to consider. Gant, Kraut et al. (2002) followed up on his previous
study (Kraut et al., 2000).1998), which revealed negative associations, prompting him to
propose the displacement. Many of the adverse effects of online shopping were found in the
follow-up study. Communication has faded away, replaced by primarily positive communication
effects. Participation in social activities and feelings of well-being. They speculated that it could
be related to a shift in the weather. The Internet's nature as more people moves, this is
especially true. The use of the Internet has decreased. However, it is worth noting that Kraut did
not completely dismiss the displacement argument (c.f. Shklovski et al., 2004). Other studies
look at the impact of CTs on new relationships developed online and the result of CTs on
existing relationships. Relationships that already exist. They emphasize that many "virtual"
connections can turn into "real" ones. Profound and meaningful" (McKenna et al., 2002), making
a positive difference in people's lives. A sense of fulfillment and well-being McKenna et al. say
that negative connections between online communication on well-being are frequently based on
limited sample size. With most people failing to report these negative consequences.
It has been argued that the adoption and use of information technology (IT) in an
organization affects the structure of the organization. Few studies extend this analysis to see if
9
an organization's performance improves when such a rebuild occurs. More rarely, these claims
are considered in the context of public authorities. We will use data from a survey of program
managers working in county-level public institutions to investigate whether reconstruction will
take place after the implementation of information technology. Whether such restructuring will
affect the performance of these institutions. And what is the relationship between structure,
performance, and manager attitudes towards IT? We found that IT adoption had a negligible
impact on agency structure, and restructuring had negligible impact on performance. However,
IT adoption has a direct impact on performance. While administrator IT support has a direct
impact on an organization's performance after IT implementation, restructuring and performance
changes as a result of IT implementation impact administrator support for IT. (Bretschneider &
Heintze, 2021)
The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to investigate the scope of information and
communication technology (ICT) used by undergraduates for personal and educational
purposes, and (2) gender, grade, and major ICT access. ICT skills recognized as. 252
participants followed a descriptive method of responding to the questionnaire. Participants were
students from a university in Jordan. As a result, we found that almost all students own
smartphones and most own laptops. They had easy access to popular technologies like
computers and the internet. They had moderate skills in general handling of these common
technologies and high skills in handling smartphones. You were a user of popular digital tools
and applications for personal use. Ownership, access, skills, and use of ICT for personal
purposes do not result in widespread use of ICT for educational purposes. However, student
use of ICT for informal learning had multiple implications for personal use of ICT, ICT access,
and recognized ICT skills. Students' use of ICT for informal purposes is also affected by gender.
However, student use of ICT for formal learning was not directly affected by access to ICT,
recognized ICT skills, gender, or major. However, the use of ICT for formal learning by students
was associated with personal purposes and the use of ICT for informal learning. Today, college
students surrounded by technology are common types of these technologies, such as
smartphones, social networking services (SNS), computers, and the Internet. They know how to
use this type of technology. Several factors directly and indirectly influence the use of ICT in
student learning. University managers and faculty need to take advantage of the use and
experience of certain types of ICT, such as smartphones and social networks, in their personal
and social life by formally integrating certain types of ICT into student learning. there is.
However, such integration should be carefully planned, taking into account the pedagogy
10
associated with technology integration and the factors that influence student acceptance and
use of such technology. (Gasaymeh, 2018)
Instant messaging (IM) technology is gaining a lot of attention in the West, while lacking
knowledge in the Arab world. This study aims to shed light on the factors that influence the use
of IM and user satisfaction in the Arab countries (Kuwait). To achieve this goal, this study
develops a theoretical model based on three known models. This model is in the form of
curiosity (from the theory of flow), compatibility (from the theory of innovation dissemination),
perceived usefulness and ease of use (from the model of technology acceptance), and similar
experience before. Contains the individual characteristics of. The proposed model has been
tested with survey data from 609 students, and the results support the proposed model. It is
important that the results highlight the impact of social impact on curiosity as a new mediator of
technology acceptance and satisfaction. This study contributes to the literature on technology
adoption in Arabic and helps educational institutions and companies understand the social and
technical nature of users' attitudes towards ICT adoption and satisfaction. (Hamdy & Rouibah,
2009)
Understanding the personal acceptance and use of information and communication
technology (ICT) is one of the most mature trends in information and systems research. In the
study of information technology and information systems, many theories are used to understand
the adoption of new technologies by users. Various models have been developed, including
innovation diffusion theory, rational behavior theory, planned behavior theory, technology
acceptance model, and more recently a unified theory of technology acceptance and use. Each
of these models sought to identify factors that influence consumer intent or the actual use of
information technology. This study brings together a new hybrid theory framework to identify
factors that influence the acceptance and use of the mobile Internet as an ICT application in the
consumer context. The proposed model consists of eight components: performance
expectations, motor expectations, facilitative conditions, social impact, perceived value,
perceived playfulness, focus of attention, and behavioral intent. Individual differences, such as
age, gender, education, income, and experience, mitigate the impact of these components on
behavioral intent and use of technology. (Alwahaishi & Snasel, 2013)
Agarwal (2000) defines the adoption of technology as the use or acceptance of a new
technology or product. Moreover, understanding the individual acceptance and use of
information technology is one of the most mature trends in information system research. The
two most dynamic technologies of modern information and communication technology, the
Internet and mobile technology, are integrated into ubiquitous mobile Internet services that
11
transform both our business processes and our daily activities. There is no doubt that mobile
internet services are heading for a new generation where mobile users can enjoy a variety of
new and improved multimedia mobile services.
Most research into the use of media has assumed that people use information and
communication technology (ICT) independently of other ICTs, that is, as independent media.
This study uses detailed inter-organizational interview data to uncover the important role that
ICT sequences play in persuasion, information sharing, and documentation. The main reasons
for using ICT sequentially were (a) meeting preparation, (b) completion of daily tasks, and (c)
follow-up to persuade. When people need to track the first episode of communication, the
overall grouping of ICT represents two basic attributes: the degree of connection with others
and the degree of synchronization. These results support an extended perspective on media-
rich and information theory by showing that ICT sequences can extend clues and channels and
provide error-reducing redundancy for ambiguous and insecure tasks (Browning, et al., 2008).
We are constantly impacted by technological communication. New communication
trends emerge as technology improves, and they frequently become the standard. It is entirely
possible to use technology to communicate with clients successfully and efficiently. You may
even utilize technology to build consumer relationships by engaging with them at the right
moment and establishing a feeling of community in some circumstances. This is especially true
as your company expands, and you need to use a tool or program to stay connected with your
staff or customers. The goal of this literature study is to determine the extent to which
technology influences research communication. Finally, this literature review aims to investigate
previous and current studies on the subject. (Patel, 2021)
According to Rogers (2019), We've devised ways of communication for as long as
humans have been on this planet, from smoke signals and messenger pigeons to the telephone
and email, which have continuously evolved how we connect.
The invention of the electric telegraph in 1831 was one of the most significant
advancements in communication. While postal communication existed before today, it was
electrical engineering in the nineteenth century that had a revolutionary influence.
The telephone. The telephone was created in 1849 and became a need for homes and
workplaces within 50 years, but tethering limited the device's flexibility and privacy. Then there
was the cell phone. Motorola developed a mobile phone in 1973, which sparked a series of
advances that permanently changed communication.
The World Wide Web. The emergence of near-immediate communication through
electronic mail, instant messaging, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone conversations,
12
two-way interactive video chats, discussion forums, blogs, and social networking has
revolutionized since the mid-1990s.
Email. The email was introduced to the world as a result of the World Wide Web in 1991
(although it had been operational for years before), and it has drastically impacted our lives—for
better or worse, depending on your point of view. The original users of the messaging network
were educational institutions and the military, who communicated through email. More than 3.8
billion people used email in 2018, accounting for more than half of the world's population. We'll
be sending 333 billion personal and business emails every day by 2022, according to estimates.
Technology. The first piece of wearable technology was a hands-free mobile headset,
which became associated with city workers after its release in 1999. It allowed entrepreneurs to
take calls while on the move, even while driving. Ten years ago, the thought of making a video
call from anything other than a phone would have seemed like science fiction. Thanks to
smartwatches, audio sunglasses, and other new wearable technologies, these skills are already
a part of our everyday lives.
Virtual Reality (VR). Although the next generation of virtual reality (VR) has only been
available since 2016, it is already disrupting communications. Even if participants are in different
countries, the beauty of VR—presence—means you can engage with someone in the same
area simultaneously, without the time drain and expense of travel.
5G. 5G promises faster data download and upload rates, more extensive coverage, and
more consistent connections than previous generations of mobile networks. These advantages
will result in significant communication improvements. Instant communication will be available,
and those tiresome spotty video conversations will be history.
Measures of Correlation
many days, if not months, to respond from the other side. This need has been abolished in the
current period. New forms of communication have emerged due to technological advancements,
the most popular of which is online communication. It is normal to meet people from all cultures
and groups on online forums and instantly connect with them. People may meet one other in
chat rooms and discussion forums without needing to meet in person. They now have a lot more
options when it comes to coping with social anxiety due to this. Online dating has evolved into a
societal norm.
Speed. This is without a doubt the most significant technological advancement in
communication: speed. Instant communication is the norm nowadays. Within milliseconds, you
get the message the other is attempting to send. Wireless signals, satellites, underwater cables,
and other modern technologies aid communication by allowing messages and diverse types of
data to be sent instantly to any point on the earth. It also implies that the user does not need to
be physically present in some locations, such as the post office or mail room. He may send a
message from anyplace his phone receives a signal, even his own house.
Reliability. It is much more dependable to send these communications electronically
than sending them through physical mail. Chatting applications are already commonplace,
which reduces the danger of a transmission glitch. You can trust your gadget to deliver the
message on the other side if the data cables are safe. It may be hampered by malfunctions and
mistakes caused by weather or human error.
Hackers may attempt to steal data and information provided on communication platforms, which
poses a danger. Most messaging apps, such as WhatsApp use end-to-end encryption, making it
difficult for developers to decipher messages.
Self-service. Self-service is another example of how technology may improve
communication. It enables clients to purchase things using IoT voice commands rapidly. They
may also use augmented reality to test things without dealing with corporate colleagues or staff.
The majority of product and service-related information and inquiries may be found on the
company's website. The consumer may look for an answer on the website's forum or knowledge
base. Some businesses additionally provide video training, essays, walkthrough instructions,
and onboarding emails, among other services.
Increase the number of people who see your ad. The business sector has been
affected by modern communication media. Businesses are constantly using technology to boost
14
their workers' productivity and inventiveness. Social media is used for a substantial portion of
internet communication. Businesses that have access to the Internet may reach a larger
audience and sell their goods more efficiently. Companies have also been able to save a
significant amount of money by using internet platforms instead of broadcast commercials.
Marketing. Communication is improved by technology, which is increasing at a fast rate
every day. According to Statista, smartphone usage has been rising and will reach 3.8 million in
2021. A corporation cannot depend on conventional marketing to match this population and
outperform its competitors. Given the variety of ways available to reach the target audience,
marketing rivalry has risen tremendously. SMS marketing, paid Facebook and YouTube
advertisements, email marketing, app ads, Google ads, banner ads, game ads, full
screen/interstitial ads, and sticky ads are the most popular methods.
Publicity. Professionals that manage a company's or an individual's public image are
known as public relations managers. The Internet and social media platforms accessibility have
made maintaining public relations more difficult. Usually, well-known firms and celebrities are
more susceptible to the public. People can virtually quickly share everything they do by
snapping photos, recording films, capturing screenshots, and publishing them to the Internet.
Everyone can see these viral photos thanks to social media networks. People may also rapidly
express their opinions and debate firms and celebrities on their own. They are more vulnerable
to unpleasant emotions because of this. The problems posed by the Internet and technology
make the job of a public relations manager much more difficult. To keep and retain a customer,
they must understand how to interact with the audience. Interaction with consumers via social
media channels and customer care; management of negative complaints and criticism on
various platforms; research and development of media for targeted markets; and control of
press mentions and press itself are just a few of their responsibilities.
Work from home. With rapid technological improvements, we can today assume that
everyone has a smartphone or computer. It allows workers the ability to utilize their own devices
to boost their in-office or work-from-home tasks. As a result of this aspect, several businesses
have developed rules enabling workers to bring their own devices to work or work remotely. It
may boost productivity by allowing workers to work from anywhere. This function, however, has
significant drawbacks, including the possibility of data breaches and information security. If the
organization adopts this policy, the IT department/vendor and management team must inspect
and control workers' devices. It can protect the company's secrets against security threats and
unlawful access. The corporation can effectively employ personal technology and profit itself by
conducting frequent device checks.
15
Theoretical Framework
Priming. Priming is a notion that enhances the effects of media on people by providing a
basic perspective. Human minds make decisions based on preconceptions that have previously
been recorded in our memories. Memories are maintained as nodes that are effectively
interconnected and serve as a frame of reference for the judgments we make. By giving a frame
of reference, priming allows the audience to assess the scenario and determine the
effectiveness of the media to plan. As a result, the media influences people to make judgments
or decisions. Priming has been scrutinized during elections and the selection of the best
candidate. When it comes to politics, where individuals lack awareness of political issues, they
rely on media information to make decisions on who to elect. In 1982, Iyengar, Peters, and
Kender proposed the priming effect, which they named after themselves. In the field of media
effects, priming is a crucial idea. Because agenda setting focuses solely on the issue's
importance, priming explains how media information is kept in the human mind and how it
affects decision-making. Media can influence one's judgment or conduct by triggering
associated ideas, which are triggered by mental associations formed within the memory.
Figure 1 represents the conceptual paradigm, depicting how to analyze the impact of
members’ work engagement towards the leader’s psychological capacity in research making. In
17
this study, technology is the independent variable or the cause that influences the effects in
communication.

METHODOLOGY
This chapter will explain the method adopted by this research. This will mention the
components that are involved in conducting this research from population to sampling
techniques used for the interview. Lastly, this gives a detailed clarification of the chosen method
of examination utilized and data collection method.
Discussed in this chapter is the methodology used in this quantitative study. This
includes the research design, research locale, research respondents, research instruments,
data gathering procedure, statistical tools, and ethical considerations.
Research Design
This study will employ a quantitative research design. According to Pedamkar (2020),
quantitative research is defined as a scientific investigation of phenomena based on the
collection of quantitative data and the application of mathematics or procedure techniques.
Quantitative research differs from other methods of analysis in that it collects data. It focuses on
numerical data and employs quantitative analysis to investigate what is being determined, thus
the data obtained should be in numerical form. The scientific method predicts the general
structure of quantitative analysis. Furthermore, this is a descriptive-experimental analysis with a
hypothetical nature.
Researchers will use the Correlational research approach in this study. According to
Bhandari 2021, this approach allows the researcher to explore associations between variables
without controlling or modifying them in a correlational research design. In addition, correlational
research is a wonderful way to collect data from natural situations swiftly. This (correlational
approach) allows the researchers to apply their findings to real-life problems in an externally
valid way. Moreover, there are a few instances where correlational research is the best option.
Research Locale
This research was carried out in Tagum City's STI College in Davao del Norte,
Philippines. Tagum is the capital of the province of Davao del Norte. The Municipality of New
Corella borders it on the north, the Municipality of Asuncion on the northwest, and the
Municipality of Mawab on the northeast. The Tagum-Liboganon River borders the municipalities
of Dujali and Carmen in the west, the Hijo River borders the municipality of Maco in the east,
and the Davao Gulf borders the city in the south, where two major rivers, the Tagum-Liboganon
and Hijo, as well as other minor rivers and tributaries, drain into the Davao Gulf. The land area
of 19,580 hectares is distributed to 23 barangays.
Generally, Tagum City is flat with rolling portion in its northern part. Further, it is
Politically subdivided into 23 barangays, categorized into 9 urban barangays namely: Apokon,
Madaum, Magugpo East, Magugpo North, Magugpo Poblacion, Magugpo South, Magugpo
West, Mankilam, and Visayan Village. Also, the city is categorized into 14 rural barangays
namely: Bincungan, Busaon, Canocotan, Cuambogan, La Filipina, Liboganon, Magdum, New
Balamban, Nueva Fuerza, Pagsabangan, Pandapan, San Agustin, San Isidro, and San Miguel.
Since this study’s core emphasis is Grade 12 research respondents enrolled at STI
College of Tagum, Tagum City was chosen as the research location. It is also where the
researchers are enrolled and where the research was carried out. Furthermore, the researchers
wanted to know if students had an impact on “the scope that technology has on communication”
and if this has a major impact on research decisions among grade 12 research respondents in
the chosen location. It is also a goal to distribute the study’s findings at this specified school,
20
with the hope of being able to share the results with other schools that were not involved in the
study.
Research Respondents
The respondents were the study's subject, the respondent who could better inform the
research questions and improve comprehension of the phenomena under investigation of to
what extent has technology affected communication, so the respondents were Grade 12 section
Mauve Senior High School – students of STI College Tagum, who are accessible, convenient,
and most importantly, the best reflects characteristics and attributes in the sample. There are a
total of 16 respondents in Section Mauve, 8 males and 8 females, with an age range of 16 years
old and above, which is sufficient to provide a manageable volume of data to address the
survey query. We asked the students if who were willing to give their time to answer our survey
questionnaire. We see to it that we reached the number of students stipulated. We used the
sampling method in conducting this study.
Research Instruments
The study gathered data regarding what extent of the factors in communication, the
section of Mauve students in STI College Tagum through a researcher-made survey
questionnaire, and it is validated by Ma’am Paula Ellaine Reginio. It consists of 20 questions,
concerning the factors affecting the communication with regards to using technology with 5
questions each identified factor. The researcher used the Likert scale as the indicator of the
respondent’s answer to the statements.
The responses of the respondents of all the statements of the indicators of the
questionnaires used the following scale, descriptive equivalent, and interpretation.
Scale Descriptive Equivalent Interpretation
The responses of the respondents in all the statements of the indicators of the
questionnaires were interpreted using the range of means stated below.
The surveys were conducted during the students' free time, and data collection lasted a
day. After the survey questions were answered, the researchers then tallied the findings, which
were subjected to calculation using a statistically chosen instrument to evaluate the significant
difference between gender.
Administration and Retrieval of Questionnaire. When the needed data are all
gathered, it was then analyzed based on the frequencies and was tabulated using the desired
statistical tools.
Statistical Instruments
The replies to the questionnaire's items were counted and recorded appropriately. The
findings of the independent and dependent variables were examined to see if they were
statistically significant. The goal of this investigation was revealed through the interpretation of
statistical techniques.
Mean. It is a mean determined by assigning values to data that have more impact based
on sure of its qualities. It is an average in which each quantity to be averaged is given a weight,
which determines the proportional significance of each amount on the standard. Weightings are
the equivalent of having many similar objects with the same value in the average. The mean
was used to measure the amount of members' work involvement and the psychological
capability of the leaders in research decision-making.
Multiple Regression Analysis. It's a statistical metric that tries to determine how strong
a connection is between one dependent variable and a set of other factors that change over
time. It aids in the comprehension of variable references. It was employed in the study to see if
the members' work involvement significantly impacted the leaders' psychological capability
when doing research.
23
Ethical Considerations
To follow this, before the meeting, a composed assent will be given to the members to
be agreed upon. It will be expressed there that that consent to the terms and states of the
investigation and that they willfully submit themselves for the meeting. The inquiries during the
center gathering meeting will likewise be considered to suit the social and social foundations for
the members. Singular contrasts will likewise be considered to guarantee that the individual
inclinations of the members won’t be an issue.
The validity of the research. The legitimacy of research questions is the earliest and
most basic ethical concern that might emerge in research. The purpose of research is to answer
a specific research topic. The study conclusion must follow the research question posed at the
outset. Failure to align research questions with study conclusions will breach ethical concerns.
The research method used for the research. Every study necessitates the use of a
research method. To do research, a variety of approaches might be utilized. To perform the
investigation, the most appropriate research approach is chosen. When it comes to ethical
issues, picking the correct study approach is critical. When it comes to picking a research
technique for research objectives, the following considerations must be made: The approach
should be compatible with the research's objectives; there should be no hazards linked with the
research method in question. All risks associated with the research technique should be
disclosed before it is used for research; Its strengths and limitations should be assessed before
it is used for research.
24
The risk to the participant. We previously taught that volunteers should be educated
about the study's purpose and potential dangers. However, if the danger to the participant is
greater than the benefit they would get, the research should be terminated. Physical or
psychological dangers are also possible. If the subjects become worried, nervous, or in pain, the
research should be halted.
specific set of participants for the study and excluded certain individuals. This information
should be transparent, and funders and participants should be informed if they have any
concerns about your sample method.
Integrity and transparency. Integrity and honesty are two more ethical issues that may
occur in research. In front of the ethical committee, researchers must keep their integrity and
transparency. All possible conflicts of interest that may impact a researcher's study activity must
be disclosed.
The researchers presented, evaluated, and interpreted the data collected in textual and
tabular forms in this chapter.
Table 2 shows the level of factors that can affect communication in terms of Cellphones.
“I can call someone conveniently especially when it is urgent.” obtained the highest average
weighted mean of 4.50. It has the descriptive equivalent of very high. This followed by “It gives
entertainment when I am feeling bored.” which obtained the average weighted mean of 4.10 and
“I can bring it anywhere, and people can easily contact me.” that obtained the average weighted
mean of 4.05 These two (2) items have the descriptive equivalent of high. Lastly, “I use the
mobile phone so that I can easily text messages.”, got the lowest average weighted mean of
4.03 with the descriptive equivalent of high.
One major impact of the cell phone stems from its capacity to include partly illiterate
mass populations in less developed countries in the southern hemisphere, who will never have
the means to buy a computer and who hitherto were not even connected to the traditional
networks of landline phones (Townsen,d 2000).

Table 3 shows the level of factorfactorscan affect in comication in terms of Tablet. “I use
a tablet to video call my family, relatives, and friends overseas or in another city.” obtained the
highest average weighted mean of 4.01. It has the descriptive equivalent of high. Fthis
followedby “It can help me interact with the world since it is great for web browsing” that
obtained the average weighted mean of 3.03 and “I use tablets because of their widescreen.”
which obtained the average weighted mean of 3.00. These two (2) items have the descriptive
equivalent of moderate. Lastly, “I can get connectivity anywhere so I could contact my families
& friends”, got the lowest average weighted mean of 2.49 with the descriptive equivalent of low.
operateTablet PCs in academic work. There is a pressing need to understand what issues
faculty andstudents encounter in using Tablet PC portable devices in everyday academic work.
TabletPCs use on campus takes many forms. For example, the Tablet PC is reported as aiding
thecompletion of academic tasks such as the grading of assignments, project work,
creatinglecture material, and capturing meeting notes which may occur outside of the classroom
(Mock, 2004). The physical nature of portable devices means that their use is not solesolely
restrictedspecific locations, like lecture halls or classrooms (Theys et al., 2005). In today
universities, technologically configured environments now support varied types of connectivity to
electronic systems and resources and support extended use of mobile devices. At present, there
is a pressing need to understand how Tablet PC’s support active instruction within specifically
designed, technologically enhanced classroom environments (Berque andThede, 2006). By
conducting this pilot, an exploratory study we hope to extend our understanding of the role that
Tablet PC’s play in academic work and make an initial assessment on their use to find out how
educators/faculty and students integrate Tablet PC’s into daily tasks (weitz et al 2006).

Table 4 shows the level of factor that can affect in communication in terms of Laptop. “I
can share my screen properly when presenting in class.” obtained the highest average weighted
mean of 4.50. It has the descriptive equivalent of very high. Followed by “I use it for
educational/work purposes.” that obtained the average weighted mean of 4.10 and “It is
convenient to use because even without electricity I can use it.” that obtained the average
weighted mean of 4.01. These two (2) items have the descriptive equivalent of high. Lastly, “It
allows me to virtually meet my friends & classmates”, got the lowest average weighted mean of
3.49 with the descriptive equivalent of moderate.

Table 5 shows the level of factors that can affect in communication in terms of
computers. “When video calling others, the quality of the video is higher.” obtained the highest
average weighted mean of 4.10. It has the descriptive equivalent of high. This followed by “I use
it for gaming.” which obtained the average weighted mean of 3.05 and “My messages can be
sent to groups of any size & can be programmed.” which obtained the average weighted mean
of 3.00. These two (2) items have the descriptive equivalent of moderate. Lastly, “I use it to edit
for my vlogs on YouTube.”, got the lowest average weighted mean of 1.50 with the descriptive
equivalent of low.
Scholars have found technology to be an essential resource for use in instruction. For
instance, technology can be an effective tool for motivating students (Ertmer &
OttenbreitLeftwich, 2010) and in particular, useful for improving students’ mathematical
achievement (e.g., Barrow, Markman, & Rouse, 2009; Demirbilek & Tamer, 2010; House &
Telese, 2012; NCTM, 2014; Van den Heuvel-Panhuizen et al., 2013; Wittwer & Senkbeil, 2008).
Table 5. The level of factor that can affect in communication in terms of Computer
Computer
Among the factors that affect communication, Cellphone got the highest mean of 4.0,
with the descriptive equivalent of a High average. Followed by Laptop that has a mean of 4.02,
with a descriptive equivalent also of High average. The third is the Tablet, which has a mean of
3.13, with a descriptive equivalent of Moderate. The lowest among them was the Computer,
with a mean of 3.52 and has a descriptive statement of Moderate average. This indicates that
Cellphones and Laptops are the most commonly used devices for communication.
Based on the results, the context on the level of factors that can affect communication
among grade 12 students are immensely effective, since they mostly use the following devices
such as Cellphone, Tablet, Laptop and Computer in communicating. The acquired total results
of the respondent’s answers based on the levels of the factors that can affect communication in
terms of cellphone tablet laptops and computer devices can be a great factor of the knowledge
and ideas on the student’s way of communication, along with their lack of resources and
knowledge about their devices.
Meanwhile, technology has enhanced storage and recovery of communication when the
need arises chiefly verbally communication a storage post real challenges in free technology
times. So, It has now become quite easy to clear doubts or misconceptions by contacting all
parties who are involved in a communication misunderstanding and this improves the quality of
communication (Harankhedkar,2011).
Furthermore, the cumbersome personal phones and numeric pagers of the early 1990s
to the internet-ready mobile devices common today, advances in technology have afforded
people of all ages many forms of communication and information gathering (Agar,2004). The
advent of mobile phone technology, the internet, and computers has concurrently provided a
vast array of information gathering techniques and communication mediums (Friedman,2005).
As a result, technology comes in handy and facilitates smooth communication among
individuals or businesses as it provides alternatives that lead to effective communication.
Table 7
33
Table 7 shows “Technology helps me pay my bills more easily” obtained an average weighted
mean of 4.01, in which it achieved a high descriptive equivalent. “I can buy whatever I want
with technologies” had taken a 3.00 weighted average mean that peers to a moderate
descriptive equivalent. “Through Technology, I can now travel to different places” got the least
average weighted mean of 2.88 with the descriptive equivalent of low. Thus, the Extent of
Technology in terms of Faster Transactions among the Grade 12 is likely to be moderately seen
to the students of STI College Tagum.

Table 8 shows the Extent of Technology among the Grade 12 students of STI Tagum
College in Terms of Accessibility. Whereas; “I can use Technology anytime” had a high
descriptive equivalent with a 4.25 average weighted mean, while “The technology provides
adequate access for learning” aimed an average weighted mean of 3.38 and “It actively helps
me to interact with the world” gained a 3.76 average weighted mean which both AWM
equivalents to a moderate descriptive equivalent. In addition, the table above indicates a high
accessibility to the students of Technology to Communication.
Digital accessibility can help people, allowing them to be more productive and included
in the educational, economic, and political realms (Dobransky and Hargittai, 2006, Kent, 2015,
Lazar et al., 2015). The degree to which a product, equipment, service, or environment is
35
accessible and navigable for people with disabilities or other specific requirements, or functional
limitations is referred to as accessibility. The current round table's focus is on digital
accessibility, which includes access to technology products, resources, and services across
hardware and software (Carnegie Melon University 2015, Lazar et al., 2015).

Technology has the potential to help create lean and efficient operations. It can help you
speed up your process by automating specific tasks and reducing or eliminating duplications
and delays. According to (BP, 2012) Technological progress plays an important factor for the

improvements in energy efficiency and the fundamental to driving economic growth. They also
boost the efficiency and productivity of IT-based businesses (Farooquie et al. 2012).

Understanding
Technology is nothing more than a set of tools that may be employed in a variety of
ways. What is more important is how techniques are used. Even or especially in education, the
same technology can be used in a variety of ways. It is not a new challenge for schools to
37
integrate technology into teaching and learning. Administrators and teachers have struggled
with how to employ technological advancements such as video and audio recordings, email,
and teleconferencing to supplement or replace traditional instructional delivery techniques since
the 1900s (Kaware & Sain, 2015; Westera, 2015).
Due to the sheer volume of new technology on the market, however, this problem has
been much more challenging. The short shelf life of new devices and software, combined with
large internal organizational impediments, make it difficult for institutions to integrate new
technology efficiently and effectively (Amirault, 2012; Kinchin, 2012; Linder-VanBerschot &
Summers 2015; Westera, 2015). However, according to surveys, two-thirds of students use
mobile devices for learning and believe that technology may assist them in achieving learning
objectives (Chen, Seilhamer, Bennett, & Bauer, 2015; Dahlstrom, 2012).

The digital revolution has had a significant impact on daily life, as seen by the
widespread use of mobile devices and the seamless integration of technology into everyday
38
chores such as buying, reading, and navigating (Anderson, 2016; Smith & Anderson, 2016;
Zickuhr & Raine, 2014). The usage of computers, mobile devices, and the Internet is at an all-
time high, and it's anticipated to continue to rise as technology improves, especially for users in
developing nations (Poushter, 2016).

Table 12 discusses the significance of the relationship between the level of factors that
can affect in communication and extent of the communication among the Grade 12 students of
STI Tagum College.
Based on the figures, the p-value of 0.000 is lower than the margin of error set at 5%
which tells us that the null hypothesis should be rejected.
Hence, the effect of communication is significantly associated with the level of factors of
communication.
Further, the r-value of 0.709 tells us that there is a high positive correlation between
factors of communication and the extent of communication.
This implies that the level of factors that can affect communication to the extent of the
communication has a high positive relationship. In addition, figures tell that the extent of
communication greatly contributes to the factors of communication.
According to Dispatch (2018), critics of the digital information era say that all types of
digital communication available to people are fundamentally destroying interpersonal contact as
we previously knew it. This allegation is outrageously inaccurate and based on emotionally
rooted statements in fear of change and is frequently made by an older population that has not
yet grasped the myriad applications of technology in their everyday lives. Technology is
omnipresent, from appliances to mobile devices and computers, and it has the power to improve
daily life. Trying to go as far away from it as possible would only prevent a person from
progressing in their learning capacities and society.

This result signifies that among the indicators of the level of factors that can affect
communication, both cellphone, and laptop represent the highest factors or influences that the
student used to widen the extent of communication and to establish a greater connection among
all the individuals in the respective aspects for an effective and success work. Through
cellphone and laptops, communication with every individual will be made easy.
This signifies that among the indicators of the level of factors of communication, it is the
cellphone and laptop that will more likely the factors to prove how the technology affects
communication and to the extent of it.
Through cellphone and laptops communication would be made easier and the
connection among the Grade 12 students will become more efficient and reliable. The other
indicators higher than 5% or 0.05 level of significance: computer is 0.572, and tablet is 0.135,
thus these indicators would not significantly predict to the effect of communication among grade
12 students.
In total, the (R2of 0.625) tells that the coefficient of determination of the model is only
(62.5%). This means that only (62.5%) of the extent of communication among Grade 12
students may be attributed to cellphone, tablet, laptop, and computer. The remaining (37.5%) is

growth. Moore predicted that the complexity of integrated circuits would rise every 18 months,
and the innovative phone technology would continue to evolve. Smartphone technology must
evolve in tandem with knowledge acquisition to enable objective technology users. To fill this
void, this research reviewed the literature intending to conclude that a "strong inventive
approach" is a factor that should not be overlooked by any civilization seeking to expand its
knowledge base. A concept model was also proposed to bridge the knowledge gap in society
due to a lack of understanding of the technical uses and benefits that this technology can
provide (Oguchi Onyeizu Ajaegbu, Chigozirim Ajaegbu, and Oluwaseyi Adewunmi Sodeinde,
2019).
Chapter 4
Presented in this chapter is the summary of findings based on the results of data gathered, the
conclusions drawn from the findings, and the recommendation for consideration.
Summary of Findings
1. The level of factors that can affect communication has an overall mean of 3.52 with the
descriptive equivalent of moderate.
2. The extent of the technology affecting communication in grade 12 section Mauve has an
overall mean of 3.84 with the descriptive equivalent of often.
3. There is a significant relationship between the level of factors that can affect
communication and technology to grade 12 research since the p-value of 0.000 is lower than
the margin of error set at 5% or 0.05. Further, the r-value of 0.709 tells that there is a high
positive correlation between the level of factors that can affect communication and technology to
grade 12 section Mauve.
4. Among the indicators of the level of factors of technology, both cellphone and
lalaptopsre more likely the factors to prove how the technology affects communication and to
the extent of it grade 12 section Mauve since they are the only indicators that are less than 5%
or 0.05 level of significance. The R2 of 0.625 tells that the coefficient of determination of the
model is only 62.5%. This means that only 62.5% of the grade 12 students may be attributed to
using cellphones, tablets computers, and laptops. The remaining 37.5% is chance variation.

Conclusions
The fact of one message being broadcast to a large audience (mass communication) is
now a reality. A condition in which neither time nor geography may limit information
accessibility. We've seen the combining of newspapers and books with computer technology in
order to boost the frequency and convenience of reporting news and advertisements.
Individuals and society have been exposed to mediated communication, which has had an
impact on our daily lives, notably on our culture and communication style.
