THE STRESS-OUT GENERATION

Each generation – from Baby Booomers (born roughly between 1946 and 1964) to
Generation X (born roughly between 1965 and 1980) to Millennials (born roughly
between 1981 and 2004) – has its own set of values and characteristics but they are all
suffering from stress. However, polls and surveys have shown that Millennials are the
most stress-out of all the generation.
Millennials are the first generation to grow up with computers so they are continuously
bombareded with information that can lead to chronic stress. Moreover, on the word of
author Michael D. Hais, many Millennials lack problem-solving abilities due to
overprotective parents. Even worse, the 2008 recession occurres when many Millennials
were graduating from high school or college. The resulting economic slowdown
decreased the number of available jobs for graduates. Hence, the main stressors in their
lives are work, money, relationships, family responsibilities and the economy.
However, the poll did not take into consideration public attitudes toward stress and mental
illness. Ronald Kessler of Havard Medical Shool points out that changes in social
attitudes have helped reduce the stigma attached to mental illness over the years through
the creation of health-related programing and specialty magazines. Younger people now
may be are more willing to admit stress than in the past but “There is not a lot of evidence
of true prevalence having gone up” and worse “It looks like younger people are in worse
shape” Kessler says.
Many surveys represent that happiness generally increases as people grow older.
Overtime, Millennials should become better at handling stress because they gain more life
experience and develop problem-fixing skills. There is now a wide range of stress
management techniques available including exercise, meditation and hypnotherapy.

Paragraph: The reasons why student feel stress.
Stress in students may have serious harmful effects and in my opinion, there are many
reasons that make student stress. One of the causes of stress in students is academic
pressure. They have to do study a lot and have do deal with many assignments and term
papers that are supposed to be completed and submitted in strict deadlines. Therefore,
they have not enough time to sleep and eat. Their stress levels can increase due to
unhealthy eating habits and lack of enough sleep. In addtion, if they are college student,
they will also concern about finances. They have to pay for housing and necessities with a
little income to help their parents. To reduce stress, they should try to think positively,
manage time effectively, take after themselves and confide in someone you they trust.
