Essay For Bridging Course: Kenapa Melanjutkan Studi, Memilih Jurusan Dan Alasannya Apa
Although he was a son of a cocoa farmer and live in a small village, My Beloved Father
was successful to become a Law Bachelor with a 4.00 GPA. This achievement made
him get an award as the best candidate for the Indonesian Muslim University, one of the
best private universities in Makassar City, South Celebes Province. He also successfully
finished his master's degree. Unfortunately, he stops his journey to get a doctoral
degree in the past. The main reason is that he has inadequate English skills. But his
spirit never dies. In his deep heart, higher education is always the most valuable thing in
this world.
He continue his life as a civil servant, marry with my mother, and finally gifted 4 precious
sons. Trying to express what is inside his heart, he wants all of his sons to have good
skills and knowledge of the English Language. Spending all of his age and energy, now
I and all of my brothers get adequate English skills. My skills in English always been a
special message for me from my father, that I have to continue my master's degree and
doctoral degree. I don't have enough constraints to stop my journey like my father. I am
proud and love to continue his spirit to getting higher education.
I start my journey to find specific interests in International Law in Senior High School. It
begins with an English community called Smada English Conversation Club (SECC)
one of the biggest organizations in my school with over one hundred members. I enjoy
the activity of the club, and as a result, I learned teamwork and management in that
community. I also get a wonderful experience by being elected as President of SECC
2013-2014. Besides that, I learn how to be a more competitive person by joining so
many English competitions. In the end, I finally succeed to be 1st winner of a model
united nation which introduced me to how the international community interacts and
makes an agreement for the goodness of their future.
Finally, I have a list of skillset and knowledge which can be "a provision" for my next
study. International law knowledge, English skill, scientific writing, legal drafting,
leadership, character building, and negotiation are examples of them. All of these
skillset and knowledge are relevant and supportive to pursuing my next graduate
program to be a Master of Laws (LLM) in Foreign University.
A multidimensional crisis is a crisis that affects so many parts of our lives. In Indonesia,
this crisis also happened. Economy crisis, Moral crisis, Healthcare crisis, and no
exception with legal and justice. In 2021, the Corruption Perception Index of Indonesia
at 38, and ranked 96th in global corruption which means “highly corrupt”.[1] The
injustice of law in Indonesia is a “public secret”. Cases of bribery and gratification are
the two judges' diseases that are most often tried in the Court of Honor by the
Judicial Commission and the Supreme Court, Of the 49 MKH trials that have been
carried out, 22 reports against judges were due to bribery and gratuities, which is
about 44.9% of the total reports. [2]
The existence of this crisis does not mean that we need to be sad and do nothing. I
called this “a challenge” for me as a law graduate on how I can participate to make a
change. Related to the crisis, i choose to make a change in the source of human
resources in the law field, and it is the law faculty of universities. By changing mindset,
delivering knowledge, upgrading skills, and training good behavior to the law student,
we can make a positive change against this crisis. I believe after this crisis, the
survivors must be successful people.
In education, we understand that we live in a challenging era in Indonesia. The
competencies of lecturers are also a problem to develop our education for better law
enforcers. On other hand, so many people want to be a lecturer but job opportunities
are limited. But, we need to treat it as a challenge and not as a problem We need to
answer it. I decide that Higher education and truthful integrity can be my solution for
