INTRODUCTION

State of Israel is a country in the Middle East, on the

southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the
northern shore of the Red Sea. It has land borders with
Lebanon to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan on
the east, the Palestinian territories of the West Bank
and Gaza Strip to the east and west, respectively, and
Egypt to the southwest. The country contains
geographically diverse features within its relatively
small area. Israel's economy and technology center is
Tel Aviv. It's capital is Jerusalem
It is regarded by Jews, Christians and Muslims as the biblical Holy
Land. Its most sacred sites are in Jerusalem. Within its Old City, the
Temple Mount complex includes the Dome of the Rock shrine, the
historic Western Wall, Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy
Sepulchre. Israel's financial hub, Tel Aviv, is known for its Bauhaus
architecture and beaches. It's currency is Israeli new shekel.
WHAT IS ZIONISM?

Zionism is Israel's national ideology. Zionists believe Judaism is a nationality as well as a religion, and that Jews
deserve their own state in their ancestral homeland, Israel, in the same way the French people deserve France
or the Chinese people should have China. It's what brought Jews back to Israel in the first place, and also at the
heart of what concerns Arabs and Palestinians about the Israeli state. The term “Zionism” was coined in 1890
by Nathan Birnaum.

Its general definition means the national movement for the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and
the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel.
Since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, Zionism has come to include the movement for the
development of the State of Israel and the protection of the Jewish nation in Israel through support for
the Israel Defense Force.
From inception, Zionism avocated tangible as well as spiritual aims. Jews of all persuasions - left,
right, religious and secular - formed the Zionist movement and worked together toward its goals.
Disagreements in philosophy has led to rifts in the Zionist movement of the years and a number of separate
forms have emerged, notably: Political Zionism; Religious Zionism; Socialist Zionism and Territorial Zionism
BIRTH OF ISRAEL
Creation of the State of Israel. Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, the British
assumed control of Palestine. In November 1917, the British government issued the Balfour Declaration,
announcing its intention to facilitate the "establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish
people. On 14 May 1948, the day before the expiration of the British Mandate, David Ben-Gurion, the head
of the Jewish Agency, declared "the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State
of Israel. On May 14, 1948,the Jews declared the establishment of the state of Israel. The next day, Britain
renounced its mandate over Palestine AND the US recognized the state of Israel. The Soviet Union
followed suit, along with DOZENS of other countries. A year later in May 1949,Israel became a member of
the UN. The people of Israel (also called the "Jewish People") trace their origin to Abraham, who
established the belief that there is only one God, the creator of the universe (see Torah). Abraham, his son
Yitshak (Isaac), and grandson Jacob (Israel), are referred to as the patriarchs of the Israelites. Following
the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel on 14 May 1948, the Arab League decided to
intervene on behalf of Palestinian Arabs, marching their forces into former British Palestine, beginning
the main phase of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.
The roots of the culture of Israel developed long before the foundation of the
State of Israel in 1948, and reflect Jewish history in the diaspora, Jewish
culture, the ideology of the Zionist movement that developed in the late
19th century, as well as the history and traditions of the Arab Israeli
population and ethnic minorities that live in Israel, among them Druze,
Circassians, Armenians and more. Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are considered the
main cultural hubs of Israel. The New York Times has described Tel Aviv as
the "capital of Mediterranean cool," Lonely Planet ranked it as a top ten city
for nightlife, and National Geographic named it one of the top ten beach
cities.

ISRAEL'S DEFENCE FORCE

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) was founded shortly after the State of Israel
was established in 1948. It ranks among the most battle-tested and highly-
trained armed forces in the world The IDF's security objectives are to
defend the existence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the State of
Israel; deter all of Israel's enemies; and, curb all forms of terrorism which
threaten daily life. Most soldiers in the IDF are Jewish, but the number of
Christian recruits has been steadily climbing since 2012, when concentrated
efforts to encourage their enlistment began. It is predicted that
approximately 200 Christian recruits will join the IDF in 2015-2016. In
October 2014 the IDF topped Business Insider Magazine’s list of most
powerful militaries in the Middle East, and also the list of the top air force's
in the entire world. Israel has one of the most well-tested and battle ready
armies in the world. and can mobilize quickly due to the relatively compact
size of the country. The Israeli air force was ranked first in the entire world
due to their space assets, advanced fighter jets, high-tech armed drones,
and nuclear weapons.
