How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
Students will be put into small groups and each group will be able to choose two events described in
Unit 1. Students will research their event within their groups and create a script for the newscast.

The script must include elements such as describing the event, when it took place, what happened,
who was impacted, how? Students will then create a presentation, auditory or visually to present
the events of their choice to their peers. If they have chosen auditory, they will aim to create a
newsflash on the television. The teacher will observe and be available when group needs redirecting
and or has problems with the technology. The teacher will also be available to preview scripts and
help make suggestions. Group members will assess each other and how each member contributed.
The teacher will assess the creativity and accuracy of the information presented. The students will
present the projects to the class.
Managing student learning:
The teacher will facilitate group work time to keep students on track. The teacher will help keep
group members accountable by implementing a while group assessment. Students will show their
scripts to the teacher prior to using any technology to ensure students are on track and ready to
produce their project. The teacher will be on standby to help with any technological issues and will
enforce students asking 2 peers before they ask them.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
Since the project is a group project, students may divide the research and creation portions into
manageable sections and have their peers work on a particular section that is most suited to their
strengths. The students also get to decide how their presentation will be presented either auditory
or visually which allows for UDL: Multiple Means of Action and Expression.
Reflection: This assignment is a great way to embed research into the classroom while also giving
students the creative freedom of choosing their topic and how they will present it. It gives way to
using technologies in ways not many students are used to. It also helps students manage their
time and work collaboratively. I look forward to the presentations of these projects.
