ECO Living Programme May 2011 ECO Living Programme @ Hong Kah North Venue: ITE College West Date: 28.05.2015 Time: 3pm 5pm Overview ECO Living Programme is a year-long community grassroots programme that aims to relief the burden of low/ middle-income families while doing our bit for the Earth. Energy, water and waste audits in HDB households are performed by volunteers in order to identify areas for improvement. The theme for this time was Water. A healthy turnout of 60 students from ITE College West volunteered to go door-to-door to conduct the audits. The day before the audit, a briefing was conducted at the ITE College West campus for the new student volunteers. Most of the students had already taken part in the previous audits. This is helpful in building up a relationship between students and residents.

Objectives - To motivate volunteers to see their role as being change agents - To empower volunteers with the technical knowledge to conduct a simple water audit - To understand the operational flow of the execution of the Water Audit visit Overview Water Audit will especially focus on checking for leaks and installing thimbles. Training session for the Water Audit was at ITE College West at the 28th of May, 3pm to 5pm. The session was broken into three main parts: 1. Presentation 2. Role playing of approach 3. Debriefing and addressing outstanding queries

Details of training for Water Audit We gave a short overview of the purpose and procedure of ELP for the benefit of the first-time volunteers. Then, we explained how an water audit requires more than just looking at the utilities bill and is actually a process of facilitating change in the client. To do so, we need to create a vision for them to see and give concrete steps they can take towards that vision. We would also need to overcome their resistance to change. The volunteers also had the chance to familiarise themselves with the operational procedure and the forms they would be using for the actual day. Finally, some of the volunteers role-played various scenarios and everyone had a chance to comment and suggest improvements.
