This year’s Mobile Blood Donation Activity was quiet challenging since its
first time for Barangay Malbang to organize such program with the help of Philippine Red
Cross-GENSAN Chapter team. Before the proper collection of blood, all recruited
volunteers will follow all the step-by-step process. First step is vital signs taking. Blood
pressure and weight will be checked and taken by BHWs and BNS. Second, is HRH
nurses and midwife will register the names donor and will make a brief interview of their
past health and travel history. Third, is the HRH medtech will do blood typing and
screening. Fourth, is final interview of our invited physician that will thoroughly screen
and examine all potential donors for collection and lastly is the extraction of 450ml blood
from the blood donors.
All in all, our team has successfully collected 16 bags of blood in the activity. And
for every after donation packed lunch were served and will be entitled for a free three (3)
kilos of rice as a token of gratitude.
Due to anticipated election, some of our donors weren’t able to donate blood
due to lack of sleep and rest from campaigning.
Ordinance has been already passed from previous years, but some of
pregnant mothers doesn’t take it seriously, is it because it wasn’t strictly
imposed or no serious cases were yet recorded?
Blood products has been a long due problem of every barangay and ours was
common to those pregnant mothers that has low hemoglobin. That’s why our team
always strategized on how we can convince more blood donors during blood donation.
The existing Barangay Ordinance mandating every pregnant woman to bring atleast one
or two blood donors every blood donation should be revisit and tackle again by the
council to create more effective strategies on how to strictly implement it. Giving of token
such as 3 kilos of rice as sign of gratitude and packed lunch for every successful
donation was still effective though.
