Output Coupling 3-1, Power transmission route (refer to Figure 1) (1) Driving the propeller (D)+@+@+@-O@ Power transmitted to the input shaft via input coupling is transmitted to the friction plate engaged with the input shaft by means of the spline - ‘Then, the plates are compressed by means‘ of the hydraulic mechanism and as a consequence power is transmitted to the steel plates, clutch carrier, output shaft and output coupling. 3-2. Clutch The clutch is a hydraulic multiple plate wet type and the spline of the driving gear is engaged with the friction plate of the inner periphery spline. The out- ex periphery spline of the steel plate is coupled with the clutch driving ring. The steel plates and the friction plates are assembled alternately. When the hydraulic pressure acts on the clutch piston the steel plates are compressed against the friction plates and as a consequence there is a transmission of power. When the clutch on/off valve is turned off the hydrau- lic pressure is drained, the clutch piston is pulled back by the spring and as a consequence the clutch is automatically disengaged. The hydraulic pressure acting on the clutch piston can be changed arbitrarily in order to cause clutch slip- Page. As a consequence it is possible to obtain any arbitrary ‘revolution speed. A large quantity of lubricating oil for cooling is supplied to the plate section of the clutch, allowing continuous operation whilst in a slipping state. Make sure the slipping operation of the clutch is carried out with the engine functioning at a revolu- tion speed of 400 rpm. 3-3. Clutch relief valve (attached drawing Fig-1! ) (clutch hydraulic pressure adjustment valve (Figure 2)) The clutch hydraulic pressure adjustment valve has the function of adjusting the hydraulic pressure of the clutch. REEF VALVE FOR CWTCH OIL REUEF VALVE FOR GLC LUBE. on. 1 MICRON, OL ENTER, REUEE VALVE Ass- This clutch hydraulic pressure adjustment valve adjusts the pressure of the hydraulic operating oil within the limits of 21 to 23 kg/cm’ and is also used to provide the master. pressure of the Omega Control Valve which adjusts the control hydraulic for the slipping operation. 3-4. Emergency clutch engaging If the clutch presents slippage or does not function at all due to some unexpected cause, immediately stop the engine. Trouble and countermeasure: Take the countermeasures to cope. with the clutch slippage. If the slippage does not stop even after taking the countermeasures the clutch can be engaged by means of the emergency bolt, EMERGENCY SCREW, [CLUTCH PISTON Fig. 3 1) In this case the piston should be compressed by means of the emergency bolt as shown in the Figure 3. Take out the plug and then tighten evenly and sufficiently the emergency bolts with the emergency bolt tightening spanner. 2) In this case care should be taken when starting the engine because the situation is equivalent to that of a clutchless engine. 3) In the case of operating the clutch using the emergency bolt, make sure you set the clutch on/ off changeover solenoid valve and clutch on/off manual valve to the "off" position. 3-5. Omega valve (attached drawing Fig- IT ) The Omega valve is installed on the output shaft (rotary part of driven side). When the clutch is operating in the slipping state this valve catches the variation of revolution speed at the output side and carries ont the feedback of this speed to the hydraulic pressure ‘acting on the clutch piston,’ by means of the centrifugal force of this valve and the control hydraulic pressure from the Omega control valve. As a consequence the output shaft revolution speed is kept at the required value. 3-6 Omega control valve (Attached drawing Fig.J4 ) The Omega control valve has the function of adjusting at an arbitrary value the control hydraulic pressure supplied to the Omega valve. The slipping state of the clutch is changed by adjusting the value of the control hydraulic pressure and as a consequence it is possible to obtain the required revolution speed of the output shaft. This valve is controlled with air pressure. The larg- ex the air pressure the larger the slip and vice-versa. 3-7, Direct valve and pilot valve (Attached drawing Fig. 1z,13) This pilot valve is provided together with the direct valve for the sake of changing over from the slipping operation to the direct coupling operation. This valve 4s changea over automatically by the control hydraulic pressure from the Omega control valve. On the other hand the direct valve is changed over automatically by the hydraulic pressure switched by the pilot valve. (Note) Both Omega control valve and pilot valve are Provided with an adjustment screw. Refrain from touching these valves unless under very special circumstances, because they are adjust- ed to the best state when the clutch is shipped from Niigata Converter's factory. 3-8. Relief valve (for lubricating oil) (attached drawing Fig.20) This valve is installed in the lubricating o41 piping and has the function of adjusting the lubricating oil pressure at the prescribed valve (1.0 to 3.5kg/cm?). 3-9. Wing pump (Attached @rawing Fig. 21) The clutch-is equipped with a manual wing pump, which is used to provide initial lubrication to the elastic coupling on starting. 3-10. 041 pump attached drawing Fig-10”) An external gear type oil pump is used to supply hydraulic operating oil and lubricating oil to the clutch. 11, O41 strainer Oil pump suction side: Oil pump discharge side: Wing pump side: 100 mesh (for lubricating ofl) 100 mesh (for hydraulic operat- ing clutch oil) 150 mesh (for lubricating oil) 10 micron filter paper (for hydraulic operating clutch of1) 80 mesh Sais 3-13. After the aforesaid adjustment, pressurized oil passes through the 10 micron of] strainer and is supplied to the clutch piston via clutch on/off valve, Omega control valve and Omega valve. -1l- In the case of direct-coupled operation hydraulic operating oil of the clutch is fed to the clutch piston section via direct valve, after passing through the 10 micron oil strainer, and fed to the guy slinger coupling through the reducing valve. Lubricating oil Lubricating oil is pumped by the oil pump from the lower case oil sump via the 100 mesh oil strainer. Then, it passes through the oil cooler, together with oil drained from the hydraulic oil pressure adjustment valve and its pressure is adjusted at the prescribed value by means of the aforesaid valve. Tubricating oil returns to the oil sump after being used for the sake of lubricating the various parts of the clutch.
