The first class was an introductory session on the course “Organizational Behavior.” The class began with a discussion on what organizational behavior is and why it is essential. Organizational behavior is a science that seeks explanations of human behavior in a workplace. The discussion further entailed the importance of the course holds in a corporate journey of a professional and gives insights on how to behave and conduct themselves in a workplace. Human resource management graduates value the learnings from this course years after graduating themselves. I believe that Organizational behavior continues to be an imperative discipline, something that professionals continue to hone with time as they move up the corporate ladder. Understanding organizational behavior will enable leaders and managers to build teams and manage conflicts effectively. Post discussion on what organizational behavior stands for, it was elucidated how the course is based on experiential learnings, discussions, and psychology-based tests that will be conducted in the class throughout the term. Mr. MG Jomon discussed the course outline and structure with the students wherein guidelines and information around quizzes that will be conducted periodically, assessment, case studies, Personal Learning Paper(PLP), marking schemes, and end-term examinations were informed. Our assessment is divided into three types of assessment- 1. The first component of our course assessment comprises of daily submission of Project Learning paper (PLPs), a one-page learning paper to be submitted at the end of each session explaining what is discussed in the class, in brief. Further, it should also incorporate the learnings and insights that we gather from each session and relate with the same in our daily lives. In my opinion, PLP is an exciting way to keep the students engaged and an effective way to ensure continuous learning. Additionally, students will be required to submit a 5000-word case study by the end of the term. The total weightage for daily PLP submission and the final case study submission account for 30% of our total grade. 2. The second component that accounts for quizzes (Minimum 6) will be conducted in class which will be objective. The quizzes will account for 35% of the total grade. Students are required to attempt 35 out of 60 questions up to which no negative marking shall be imposed. However, a negative marking of -1 will be applicable for each question attempted in addition to the 35 questions. The marks scored in addition to the 3. The third component of the course assessment accounts for the end-term evaluation, which will be conducted as per the dates informed by the Admissions office, and the same accounts for 35% of the total grade.
As an upcoming postgraduate in Human Resource Management, I believe having a
command of this discipline is essential in understanding human behavior in an organization and further helps professionals build the skills to bring out the behavioral changes in their professional conduct. Additionally, an Interactive learning approach based on class discussions adopted for teaching this course is an effective way to engage students
