Introduction:

Good morning, honorable judge, my name is Sethuki, and it is my pleasure to represent the
defendant, Mr. Tom Buchannan on this very important case. The defendant stands here falsely
accused of running over Mrs. Myrtle Wilson, a very serious crime. At the conclusion of the case,
we will ask for a verdict of not guilty. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this case is about Mrs.
Myrtle Wilson’s death happened on 24th September 1922, it has been stated that she ran out
onto the streets after getting into an argument with her husband, Mr. George Wilson and got
run over by a car, which didn’t look back but drove away. My client, Mr. Tom Buchanan is
falsely accused of being the murderer.
Mr. Buchannan is simply not guilty of murdering Mrs. Wilson, as he arrived at the scene an hour
after, which can be proven by police reports as the police at the scene had recorded all the
witnesses arriving at the scene. Moreover, Mr. Buchannan was having a secret affair with Mrs.
Wilson hence proving that he would not be emotionally capable of murdering his mistress and
he loved her dearly, he even bought her a dog and an apartment. How could a man like that
even think of such a thing? Furthermore, our witness here today has claimed that the car was a
yellow 1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom, and after digging into the details we found out that the car is
licensed to Mr. Jay Gatsby.
Overall, Mr. Tom Buchannan is innocent but Mr. Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchannan are guilty as
my client has confirmed that he ordered Mr. Gatsby and Mrs. Daisy to ride back home together
in Mr. Gatsby’s car. Our witness Michaelis, who has an excellent vision and was paying close
attention to the road, claimed that the two passengers in the car were Mr. Gatsby and Mrs.
Buchannan after reviewing their photographs.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the defense will now call our witness, Mr. Michaelis, who will
testify that he saw that the two prosecutors were the passengers of the car that ran over Mrs.
Wilson but my client, Mr. Buchannan arrived much later at the scene and had no part in the
crime. At the conclusion of the case, we would ask you to find that my client, Mr. Tom
Buchannan is innocent. We would ask for a verdict of not guilty. Thank you.

Conclusion:
Good morning honorable judge and ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my name is Sethuki, and
again I am the defense lawyer in Mrs. Myrtle Wilson’s murder-suicide case. We would ask for a
verdict of not guilty. At the conclusion of this case, you will have grave doubts that Mr. Tom
Buchannan was anywhere near the murder scene when it occurred. If anything, you will be
convinced that the prosecutors are guilty as Mrs. Wilson was Mr. Buchannan’s mistress who he
loved dearly and our witness has proved to have visioned the murder convicted by Mr. Jay
Gatsby and Mrs. Daisy Buchannan. Consequently, Mr. Tom Buchannan is simply not guilty of
anything.
Thank you.
