Financial Aid Reflection

1. Federal Financial Aid- What are the different types of federal financial aid available to students? How do you apply for federal financial aid? What

benefits do students receive from this type of financial aid?

You could get a federal grant or a federal scholarship. You can apply with FAFSA to get one of these forms of aid. You can pay for your tuition or necessary items for

college.

2. State Financial Aid- What are the types of state aid available to students? How do you apply for state financial aid? What benefits do students receive

from this type of financial aid?

Some types of state financial aid are a California Grant which is for California residents or a NYC TAP which is for New York residents. You can also get some by

submitting a FAFSA. You can get free money to pay off your tuition or things you may need for college.

3. School Specific Financial Aid- Which schools did you research? Describe one grant or scholarship that is offered at each school. What benefits do

students receive from this type of financial aid?

You can win an art scholarship which could get you access to the school for free if you win a competition or event. You wouldn’t have to pay or maybe pay the

minimum if you win.

4. Private Scholarships- Describe two scholarships that you found interesting during your research. What are the benefits of using this type of aid to fund

your education?

Some private scholarships can be found on collegeboard.com or finals.org. These are mostly like foundations or private companies hosting events for free money to

pay off your college debt or tuition.

5. Military Financial Aid- Do you or your family plan to or have served in the military? If so, describe at least one military financial aid program that is

available to you? What benefits do students receive from this type of financial aid?

You can do Calvet where if you had a parent who served in a branch who got injured badly you may qualify for free tuition.

6. Personal Financial Aid Plan- After reviewing the different types of financial aid available to students, what plan do you have for covering the costs of

post-secondary education? Write a paragraph that summarizes the total cost you expect to pay for post-secondary education, the sources of aid you plan to use to

cover these costs, and when and how you plan to apply for each program. You may also need to consider alternate sources of income such as a college fund or

savings plan that has already been set aside.

I am going to apply for FAFSA. I will work during my two years of college at Southwestern and save so I can get my bachelors or even masters at a nicer school. My grandmother also

said she can help pay for my community college, however when I transfer, I will be on my own. I may have student debt but working through these years and saving I hope to have

enough for at least my bachelors.
