Lesson plan objectives:

Subject observable objective: students will learn about cultures and summarize them
Multicultural goal: students will recognize, accept and appreciate differences in culture,
ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, religion, special needs, and gender

Instruction-learning process
Do first: Students will answer the bell ringer question (What is culture?) in their journals.
Mini-lesson: The students and I will come together to answer the bell ringer question. I will write
their answers on the board. I will give them a short PowerPoint presentation about five cultures
(Asians, African Americans, Hispanics, Europeans, and Native Americans). Students will also be
required to take notes on it.
Guided practice: Students will complete the guided practice worksheet. They will circle the
groups they think they belong in.
Independent practice: Students will start researching information about their culture or culture of
choice. They will begin creating their PowerPoint if there is time.
Exit slip: Students will have to write two facts on a half sheet of paper and turn it into the exit
basket.

Reflection
The specific concept that was taught was culture. Students have more knowledge about different
cultures and maybe even their own culture. Students understand why some people are how they
are. Students were very engaged when learning about the different cultures. They were actively
listening and asking questions when needed.

Strengths: Short and brief PowerPoint; worksheets kept students asking each other about what
group(s) they were in

Weaknesses: students were not excited about taking notes, some students did laugh at the picture
