May 1: Labor Day/May Day Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a public holiday in
July 19: Revolution Day (or Celebrates the arrival of
Sandinista rebels in Managua after overthrowing
Nicaraguan dictator Somoza. It has become mostly a
political celebration for the FSLN (Sandinista political
party).
September 14: Battle of San Jacinto. Celebrating the
defeat of the American political entrepreneur William
Walker in 1856 that led to his ouster from power.
September 15: Independence Day. A national holiday
to celebrate the day in 1821 when Nicaragua and other
Central American countries declared their
independence from Spain.
December 8: Feast of the Immaculate Conception or “La
Purisima”. The Virgin Mary is the patron saint of
Nicaragua and Christians celebrate her immaculate
conception nationally on December 8 and in Leon on
December 7
November 2: All Souls’ Day or the Day of the Dead.
Nicaraguans commemorate their deceased relatives by
placing flowers on their graves and praying. Government
holiday.

which is approximately the date of his birth. King,
January 15, 1929.

in the United States of America on the last Monday of
May of each year.

on July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress approved the
Declaration of Independence, officially breaking bonds
with England and forming a new independent nation, the
United States of America.
Labor Day (first Monday inSeptember)
First observed in New York City in September 1882, the
Labor Day holiday commemorates the contributions of
working men and women. In 1894, President Grover
Cleveland signed legislation establishing the federal
holiday.

the fourth Thursday in November to enjoy a traditional
meal and to give thanks for life's many blessings.
Christmas is a joyful holiday of Christian origin that is
recognized by many people in the United States. It is
