Worksheet-1
Q.1. An electron is revolving in its orbit of radius r because of electrostatic force by
the nucleus of Hydrogen. The kinetic energy of electron is
Q.2. Two identical positively charged objects are brought in contact. It is observed
that the charge on one of them increases by 60%. The ratio of the charges of the
two objects is

A. 2:1
B. 11:5
C. 9:5
D. 4:7
Q.3. In the figure given below are shown 3 charged particles and the arrows show the direction of
the forces acting on them. Out of the given combinations of situations, which are correct?

A. (i), (iii) B. (i), (ii) C. (i), (ii) and (iii) D. (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv)
Q.4. Following figure shows 2 situations of 2 pendulums with charged bobs.
Choose the correct alternative
Q.5. Following figure shows 2 situations of 2 pendulums with charged bobs.
Choose the correct alternative
Q.6. A pendulum’s bob contains a charge positive q, a charged particle is brought
near to it, what can be commented about the tension(T) in the string, when the
pendulum comes in equilibrium?

A. T = mg
B. T > mg
C. T < mg
D. T can be greater than mg or less than mg,
depending on the polarity of charge q1
Q7. In the figure given below, two charged blocks having a separation of r are
shown. Their charges and masses are mentioned in the figure. If block 1 is fixed
and block 2 is movable and is placed on a rough surface of friction coefficient μ.
Calculate the maximum value of charge q2, so that it remains in equilibrium.
Q.8. What is the magnitude of Tension in the thread?

A. mg
B. > mg
C. <mg
D. depends on θ
Q.9. Two identical charged balls made of conducting material are placed at some
distance and the electrostatic force between them is found to be equal to F. A third
uncharged ball of same size is touched with the first and then second. After
touching the magnitude of the electrostatic force between them will be

A. F
B. F/2
C. 3F/8
D. 5F/9
Q. 10.A plastic rod containing negative charge is held near a conducting sphere
which is suspended using a thread made up of insulating material. Which of the
following options is correct?

A. The sphere will not be affected by the presence of the rod

B. The sphere will remain neutral but will be attracted by the rod
C. The sphere will remain neutral but will be repelled by the rod
D. The sphere will get a negative charged and will be attracted towards the rod
Solutions
Sol-1
Sol.2 (pg-1)
Sol-2 pg-2
Sol3
Like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other. In
combination (i), all the charges are like charges so they are repelling each other.
In the combination (ii) all charges seem to attract each other that is not possible. In
the combination (iii), upper 2 charges are similar and the lower one is of opposite
polarity and the arrows are placed accordingly, this combination is correct.
Combination (iv) is incorrect as like charges can only repel they cannot attract
each other.
Sol4 pg-1
Sol4 pg 2
The value of angle θ depends on electrostatic force as well as mg. The magnitude
of the electrostatic force on both the charges is equal, as they form action-reaction
pair. Hence, the values of angles θ1 and θ2 will be equal. Although they will be
greater than θ.

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

Sol5 pg-1
Sol 5 pg 2
The value of angle θ is inversely proportional to the weight, more the weight is less
the value of the angle θ. Hence, θ1 > θ2

Hence, the correct answer is option A.

Sol6 The magnitude of tension
depends on the
magnitude of mg and
electrostatic force. The
polarity of charge can
determine the direction of
the force.

Hence, the correct

answer is option B.
Sol7

(Please note, to
calculate the maximum
value of q2, maximum
friction has been used )

Sol9 pg2
Sol10
The sphere being conducting, will get positive charge induced on the side which is
near the rod and the other side will get some negative charge. The total charge on
the sphere will remain zero but it will be attracted to the rod.

Hence, the correct answer is option B.

Sol10
The sphere being conducting, will get positive charge induced on the side which is
near the rod and the other side will get some negative charge. The total charge on
the sphere will remain zero but it will be attracted to the rod.

Hence, the correct answer is option B.
