A home visit is a way to bridge the gap between school and home for students, families,
and teachers. A growing amount of research points to the importance of parents supporting
their child’s learning in the home. A home visit is one way to deepen the partnership between
teacher and parent and increase the students’ chances for success.
On February 4, 2022 at around 9:00 in the morning, the grade 9 teachers of
Pulungmasle National High School ventured outside the school to seek possible answers on why
some of the parents don’t come school anymore to take the modules of their children or why
some students don’t submit their answer sheets. Teachers encountered different adversities
like being scorched with prickly heat, avoiding Covid19-stricken areas, or visiting far-flung
locations during the trip but that didn’t stop the committed teachers in reaching out their
students.
Upon reaching each home, the respective advisers talked to the parent(s), another
teacher snapped photos for documentation and the others stayed inside the vehicle for safety
protocols. Between the teachers and parents were agreements through home visitation forms
in which both parties signed. The teachers were glad to hear from the parents that they still
want their children continue modular learning.
At least 90% percent of the targeted students were successfully visited in their homes.
At exactly 1:00 in the afternoon, the tired yet satisfied teachers returned to the school with
hopes that they have saved the future of the children/students they visited.
