DESCRIPTION
The Honeywell 6266 Series Photoelectric Duct Smoke
Detectors use the light scattering principle to ensure
reliable smoke detection. Advanced photo-optic technology
ensures fast response to products of combustion from both
fast burning "clean" fires and slow smoldering fires.
Dependable solid state circuitry minimizes current drain
during supervision and permits up to 30 smoke detectors to
be installed on a single circuit.
Duct smoke detectors continually sample airflow in a HVAC
duct and initiate an alarm condition at the associated
Honeywell Fire Alarm Control Panel whenever the quantity
(percent obscuration) of combustion products in that air
sample exceeds the detector's sensitivity setting. Upon
activation, the detector may also energize an optional
5956A Fire Alarm LED Indicator and/or an associated
6254A-003 Fire Alarm Relay. For more deteails, refer to the

Sensor Housing.
Installation — The 6266 Series detectors plug in to a
separately ordered detector mounting base (6251 Series).
All field wiring connections are made to terminals on the
base. The detector assembly is then easily installed into the
6260A-100 housing. The plug-in base is simple to wire and
also allows for convenient interchange with Honeywell
6264B-001 and 6264C-001 Ionization detectors.
Stability — An infrared LED combined with a high speed
light sensing photo diode within the sensing chamber gives
the detector a natural stability, essentially eliminating false
alarms caused by transient electrical disturbances. Self-
compensating circuitry provides maximum stability against
the effects of aging and dust film accumulation.

Testing — The detector sensitivity is preset at the factory
for added installation convenience. A special calibrated
Test Probe is available to test the detector's sensitivity
without the need for smoke generation or aerosol sprays.
The 6262A-001 Alarm Indicator/Test Switch can also be
connected for convenient testing.
APPLICATION DATA
The UL Listed 6266B-001 detector is usable in HVAC ducts
with air velocities ranging from 300 to 4000 ft/min (1.5 to 20
m/sec). The ULC Listed 6266C-001 detector is usable in
HVAC ducts with air velocities ranging from 300 to 4500 ft/
min (1.5 to 22.8 m/sec). Bothe detectors are intended for
installation into the Honeywell 6260A-100 Duct Smoke
Detector/Sensor Housing (ordered separatley).
Applications with Detector Relays —
Up to 30 duct detectors may be installed on any single 2-
wire non-addressable circuit. However, whenever the
6260A-100 duct detector assembly includes an optional
6254A-003 Fire Alarm Relay to be operated by the detector,
only one detector is permitted per circuit. Also, when relay
bases are used to control more than one function (eg.
elevator capture, fan shutdown, etc.) only one detector is
permitted per circuit , all other initiating devices, such as
heat detectors, manual stations, waterflow switches, etc.,
must be connected to other initiating circuits.
