BRIEF

OUTLINE:  Students learn to express their likes and play bingo. Then they will demonstrate their
ability to configure comparative adjectives by playing word search.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  BetterBingoworksheets: There are two pages

PREPARATION NEEDED:

 Write up 10 questions for the listening practice. For lower level class, teacher should consider
asking simple questions like,

"Who is better, Ichiro or Matsui?" Review "what" and "who" with students. Use the below
questions if desired.

o Who is better, Ichiro or Matsui?

o What food is better, pizza or bread?
o What is better, a pencil or a pen?
o Who is better, Orange Range or SMAP? (These are famous Japanese J-pop bands.)
o What sport is better, baseball or tennis?
o What is better, car or bus?
o What subject is better, science or english?
o Who is better, a cook or a farmer?
o Who is better, a doctor or a dentist?
o What meat is better, beef or chicken?

 The ALT will ask the questions and students will choose whichever one they think is better and
write it on their worksheet. Teachers can check students' spelling afterward. Then have students
choose 9 of the 10 words & write them on the bingo squares.
 BINGO: ALT will ask the same 10 questions to the JTE. For example, ALT will ask, "Who is
better? Ichiro or Matsui" and JTE answers, "Ichiro" then if students have "Ichiro" written on their
bingo squares, they get to cross it out.
 The first student to get bingo or all-bingo (all 9 words crossed out) wins the game.
 WORD SEARCH: Explain to students that they must find the comparative words in the word
search.
