Program Objectives General Program Objectives:


1. Provide students with the basic theoretical background and comprehensive field training in the Geological Sciences as a general preparation
for their professional careers in the Geosciences.
2. Help students, as future geoscientists, develop, not only their intellectual maturity but equally important, their roles and responsibilities to
society and to the local and international scientific community.
Specific Program Objectives:
1. Prepare the students through the sufficient provision of pure and applied geoscientific backgrounds, both in theory and actual practice,
specific to the needs of their prospective careers as academicians, researchers, or geoscientists in the local and international private and
government institutions. This objective shall be attained through well-designed theoretical, laboratory, and field exercises.
2. Provide the students' venues to develop their societal responsibilities in the form of short (several days) and long-term (several weeks)
fieldworks and field trips, membership in student and professional organizations, and/or involvement in applied geoscientific research
activities or projects.
Program Outcomes Common to all baccalaureate programs in all types of institutions:
a. Engage in lifelong learning and understanding of the need to keep abreast of the developments in the specific field of practice.
b. Communicates effectively thru oral and in writing using both English and Pilipino.
c. Perform effectively and independently in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.

e. Appreciate the “FiIipino historical and cultural heritage” (based on RA 7722).

f. Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge and understanding in the core areas of earth science.
g. Apply analytical, critical and problem-solving skills using the scientific method.
h. Gather and interpret relevant scientific data and make judgments that include reflection on relevant scientific and ethical issues.
i. Carry out basic mathematical and statistical computations and use of appropriate technologies in (1) data assembly; (2) the analysis
of data; and (3) in pattern recognition, generalization, abstraction, critical analysis and problem-solving.
j. Communicate information, ideas problems and solutions both, orally and in writing, to other scientists, decision-makers and the pubic
utilizing various fora and media.
k. Connect science and mathematics to other disciplines.
l. Design and perform techniques and procedures following safe and responsible laboratory or field practices.
m. Accept and critically evaluate input from others.
n. Appreciate the limitations and implications of science in everyday life.

w. 4. Advance their involvement in civic and public affairs.

Course Descriptions: This course focuses on the topics mentioned in Rule III, Program Implementation, and Section 4. Coverage, Paragraph c, of the Implementing Rules and
Regulation of RA 9163, which provides the students enrolled in the first semester of the freshmen year are required to undergo a common module phase.
During the phase, the students are expected to gain knowledge, skills, and attitude towards deepened understanding and heightened appreciation of their
role in the promotion of the common good and the general welfare. Further, they are expected to demonstrate learning by applying concepts and principles
to practical situations in pursuit of community development for the task of nation-building.

Skills & Values Developed: NSTP promotes the ideals of the core values found in the Preamble of the 1987 Philippine Constitution and core values that guide the
implementation of PAGKAMAKA-DIYOS (faith in the Almighty, respect for life, order, work, concern for the family and future generation), PAGKAMAKA-BAYAN
(unity, equality, respect for law and the government, patriotism, promotion of the common good), PAGKAMAKA-TAO (love, freedom, peace, truth, justice) and
PAGKAMAKA-KALIKASAN (concern for the environment). Furthermore, students should manifest developed leadership skills, disaster risk reduction management
and response skills; volunteerism skills in the conduct of community services.
